"Now featured on Massively.com!"

This issue has been brought up again on massively...hi Kyle

http://www.massively.com/2010/01/28/...bate/#comments

UPDATE - Many people have worked through and suggested a super compromise. Why not make level 45 a soft cap on skill points, and then set a hard cap another 25,000 or so points higher? That would create in game content on the spot, and give us all something else to continue to work on as we cap. You could set some diminishing returns, or raise the amount of SP to skill up from 500 to 1000/2000 or something like that as well.

I think this creates a system that allows a hard cap for expansion, but rounds out our characters and gives us something to do at cap.

OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND VIEWS, AND OVER FIVE THOUSAND REPLIES, ARE WE EVER GOING TO GET SOME MORE DIALOGUE ON THIS ISSUE DEVS?

As stated I am still in support of this game, but it seems like a lot of the other familiar faces around this board that were fans are pretty peeved off.

I'd say I'm pretty much in agreement of the opposite. What fun is a game where everyone has every skill there is? There's no variety.

I was a stauch supporter of Cryptic and a lifetime subscriber, but the way they have ignored the forum like this, is pretty unforgivable. Even if they have decided to keep the skill cap (which I agree is a bad idea) cant they at least give us the common decency of a reponse to the issue?

Saying everybody is going to X if you don't change Y is a blanket statement that far too presumptuous. I have no problem with a skill cap and the current character limit the way it stands. I plan on eventually maxing out my dedicated science officer, and then exploring other play styles with different skills that are complimentary. If you give every single character the end goal of every single skill, it kind of makes things a bit mundane.

That would be true, if it were the case, but it's not. You are limited to some skills and abilities based on your class. This just insures that there is not as much stress over what to level up, and you can pilot a couple of different types of ships.

where did I put a blanket statement? Some people are going to quit, yes, but I did not say all. I think more people are angry at the lack of response a day later than they are about the information itself.

People are going to quit for every reason imaginable. People are just going to quit. People quit games all the time. People are also going to start and stay if the devs continue to improve on and add to the game, so it's not a big deal.

The skills that you apply skill points to.. you know, the ones we're talking about? All space skills. Any character can learn them.

I think it's a totally ridiculous design to allow classes to take every skill. The whole point of playing RPGs is to build your character and to make choices. Unlimited skill points means that the only choice is how many hours to play. I think the request is simply beyond silly.
