Default Kobayashi Maru

Am i the only one who things the opening game tutorial should be based on the infamous Kobayashi Maru ?

That would be a really fun way to learn about star ship control , weapon systems, maintenance etc

I for one would love it.

I believe this once discussed during the Perpetual Era. Certainly it's an iconic part of Trek lore, but it does have one drawback: that you invariably have to loose, which isn't a very encouraging start. Especially for people who haven't seen Star Trek II and don't know how the test works, or its purpose.

It would only be authentic if you could cheat at it.

well if we're post TNG, the Maru senerio was no longer the standard to test captains with, so no it won';t work. but it'd be a nice holodeck simulation to play with

Default I see your point..but

Well they could always treat it like one final exam and before your ship goes up in flame, the test ends and and you gradurate from starfleet etc.

I just think it's a really fun way to add an iconic element of Star Trek to the game

Don't know that I'd want the no-win scenario as part of the tutorial. It'd be ok to mention it during the tutorial though. Then present it as an Academy challenge during normal play or as a Historic holodeck encounter as well.

Now what has me very curious is would they go with the Star Trek 2 version or present it in a more up to date TNG version? Certainly the ability to play out some of the same scenarios with different variables like the ships, crew, and equipment could make even the Kobayashi Maru an endless amount of fun!

How do you know? For all we know they test Cadets with an updated version of the scenerio.
