Default New Article!

Searching and found an article from Zam that's new to me. Didn't seem like there's any more info than we already know. But check out the customization pics of the Miranda!

Thats a good interview, but I loved the picture with the three different Miranda class ships. Each one looks great. Thanks for posting this. Nice find!

You know, I've been reading and re-reading this paragraph from the Allakhazam piece:

Quote:
Also important is your crew. Your Bridge Crew will have the biggest impact on what you can do, because they have skills and abilities you can call on that will help define your role. If you select a tactical officer who can load spreads of photon torpedoes, you will have different options than a Captain who picked an engineer specialized in shield modulation and efficiency. The number of your Bridge Crew active at any given time depends on your ship configuration.
And I now find myself wondering: will our own characters have any abilities at all?

I know "tone" can be hard to hear online, so let me point out that I'm not asking this as any kind of veiled criticism. I'm sincerely wondering whether, between ship capabilities and crew skills, our characters won't personally learn any skills to be used directly at all. It almost sounds as though every action we might want to perform on a ship will be determined by and use the skills that our bridge "pets" currently know, applied to whatever gear we have in hand or installed on our current ship. Our characters could be just the interface for orders to our crew.

I'm not sure that's how STO will actually be -- it just sounds, from Craig's comments quote above, that that's how it could be.

What do you folks think?

I love the customisation. It just makes it hard to leave a ship behind.

I think that since there will be three different paths for captains there will be abilities for them. But it's only logical that some things depend on the pets.... (Sometimes I really wonder how Worf survives that. Sitting on the captain's chair in the Defiant and having someone less experienced handle the weapons. That would kill me.) The Captain sits in the center seat and gives the orders, while the tactical officer is responsible for the weapon control, the flight controller for evasive maneuvers etc. My guess is that the abilities of the captain will be stuff like maneuvers or combining the abilities of other bridge crew members (maybe the Picard Maneuver?).
