Default Kobayashi Maru Vol. 5

This one is brought to you by Temtavia - Good scenario

My scenario presents the captain with a grave dilema. Your starship has detected instabilities in the emissions of a nearby star, which your science officer informs you is about to undergo a significant increase in energy output that will result in the sterilization of any life in the system. You decide to investigate the system and upon arrival detect lifesigns. One set of life signs are present on an m-class world orbiting the star within the lifezone and a second life sign eminating from the asteroid belt. Upon further investigation you discover that not only will the star's instability kill everyone at both locations, but it will happen in the next five hours. You have scanned both colonies and your scans tell you that your ship is only big enough to accommodate one group of colonists, leaving the other to its doom. What do you do?

I would send out a distress signal you any nearby ships asking for assistance, Then I would determine which colony has the greater number-and move into that one. If they have a colony an asteroid belt. They have ships,I would tell the asteroid colony to start evacuating-then come in and tractor the ships to safety.

First I assume I'm the only ship in range, and the colonists don't have ships themselves. I would head to which ever one I am closest to and evacuate that colony. I

If my scans can tell me one of the colonies has starships of their own I would send a message to them to begin evacutating their people and evacuate the other one myself.

These colonies were settled by the Federation, so I just got into a sensor range, got some popcorn and enjoyed the fire works.

Make offers to both parties for soon to be vacated real estate.

Up for sale: M-Class planet, prime for relocation and colonization. Also up for bidding, asteroid based locations, easily modifiable to be hidden from nosy interstellar travelers and potentially hostile life forms.

All forms of payment for bidding are negotiable.

This is a dilema. The asteroid colony would undoubtedly be miners and smaller, in size the planetary colony will have families. My choice in this matter would to be go after the planet to rescue fa\milies and those life forms, though this could be a direct violation of the Prime Directive.

I hate to use technobabble, but the way I see it,the only option in this case would be to transport everyone on the planet, and keep them in the transporter buffers. This would require all the ships transporters, even the ones on shuttle craft, but at least they would have a fighting chance.

This is fairly easy with knowledge of the Trek Universe! =D

You do nothing, since both civilizations do not have warp technology of their own, which can be assumed of them, because they should be able to evacuate themselves, the Prime Directive forbids "me" from interfering in the matter. The safety of my crew is of utmost priority. However, you can also assume that the Asteroid colonists do have ships, and that you must evacuate them. If both of them have Warp Technology, I can assume that one of them can evacuate themselves, I would evacuate which ever one is closest to the star, and attempt to warp tow the other ship(s), if they cannot attain a high warp speed or extend my warp field around said ship(s).

Assuming the colonists in the asteroid belt have "moved into" an asteroid, I would warn them to "abandon ship", and get into whatever escape pods and ships they have there and evactuate; after all they've colonised some asteroids and navigated an asteroid belt, so they really ought to have ships and space-flight, right? To my mind, there's also the slight chance that the asteroid colonists my be protected by the minerals and compounds within the asteroids they inhabit, which may reduce radiation levels somewhat. Then I would proceed to evacuate as many of the colonists on the planet near the star as I could. I'd inform my command of the situation and ask for some relief vessels, incase any of the asteroid-ers survive.
