I defy you to find an example of video game graphics that someone can't criticize as "cartoony". No, really... go ahead.

Anarchy Online keeping in mind that it is seven, nearly eight, years old.

Now I bet you want three examples?

Oh, wait "someone" just one person? Well, you will always to stand on your subjective point, I guess.

Extras.
Aqua Nebula of Crystals

Graphics < Game play
Prevent cheating | PC Borg | LordDave "agrees 100%"
Why is guesting as PC crew on another’s ship; switching from guest to Captain / 1st in boring times not considered?
First and foremost, Star Trek is about exploration; PvP'ers are a vocal minority, please don't let them ruin it.

Sticking with MMOs, I'm going with Eve online for Space environments, and Soon to be released Huxley (limited MMO) for ground combat.

Both are much less "stylized"

Yet I agree with the premise that STO does not really look Cartoonish, and I like the look,
but it is an issue of relativity.

Going outside MMOs, have you seen Lara in the new TombRaider?
Hell with Crysis, this stuff get's better everyday

You almost got my point. Essentially, "cartoony" has become as cliche and meaningless as the expression "WoW-clone" amongst fans of this genre.

Just to give you a little perspective, both this and this could be called "cartoony", whereas this is undeniably an example of photorealism.

I've never seen Klingons quite that disturbing.

I still play Fallout 2 and Master of Orion 1 so graphics arent that important to me. Gameplay is most vital for a decent game. Ask anyone who bought Age of Conan if graphics kept them playing for very long (that game totally sucked)

Cryptic: We’re aiming for a fantastical style, not a “cartoony” one. It’s going to look realistic, in terms of planets, environments, and characters, but we want to take it up a notch and make it feel more fantastic. We’re going to give it that sense of wonder and vibrancy that you expect from Star Trek.

So, it fantastical a euphemism for cartoony? or not?

Cryptic is saying they are going for a realistic look in planets, environments, and characters. Is that true? I would say somewhat so.

However, I would like more realism, not more fantastic visuals. That's just me though.

I want the ships and characters to be realistic looking, not fantastic. Hope we see more examples soon.
Here is how to deal with Artists:

It looks GREAT....now add some texture to it, thanks, keep up the good work.
