Good luck with trying to get a refund. My friends and I were vaguely interested in Champions Online, but the STO "Gauranteed Access to Open Beta" was what lured us in to purchase a lifetime subscription for each of us. Just got told by the powers that be that 'so sad, too bad, we don't refund lifetime subscriptions anymore' and basically we owe you nothing.

We'll get "access" to Closed Beta at some point, even if we don't actually get to play it. So we've decided if this is the way they want to play it, then STO will be given a miss by us. We'll quite happily wait for SW:TOR and continue to watch our dvd's of the franchise, but not be a part of the game.

For all those saying you should have known better, and they owe you squat, well, I guess they don't, but you kinda get left with the feeling that you paid $200 for something a lot of people were getting for free, and that kinda leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Buyer Beware indeed, we'll not be caught by Cryptic again.

Nuffington, contact your State's Attorney General (or equivalent, if you're outside the U.S.) and file a complaint, along with a reqwuest for assistance in obtaining a refund. There are definitely grounds to pursue the matter, if you and your friends are of a mind to.

That would be a waste of time. The original offer only "Guaranteed Beta Access" which means as long as those people get in, even if it's the last day of Closed Beta, then Cryptic will be upholding the deal.

I saw a dev post where Stormshade said all CO 6mo and lifers will be in by the end of december, which means you'll probably get 2.5 weeks of closed beta and 2 weeks of open beta before release.

Therefore, you got in, Cryptic is not legally required to give any more than that. They are only bound to the agreement at the time of purchase.

PS No refunds will be given because when you paid for your CO subscription it specifically said "Non-refundable"

So here!

Except that isn't upholding the deal. One day of access is not fulfillment of their contract. The lifetime subscription said guaranteed access to the closed beta. The closed beta has been going for several weeks now and I still do not have access to it. That is in direct violation of the guaranteed closed beta access offered as part of the lifetime subscription.

Yeah, whatever. Cryptic is not honoring their contract with me and that is grounds enough to get a refund from them. I know plenty of people that got their lifetime subscriptions refunded. They can either refund my money or face a class action lawsuit for not fulfilling their part of the contract. Closed beta access does not mean one day or one hour or even one week. It means access to the closed beta, period.

Access that they are failing to provide to all those that purchased lifetime and 6mo subscriptions.

"good faith
n. honest intent to act without taking an unfair advantage over another person or to fulfill a promise to act, even when some legal technicality is not fulfilled. The term is applied to all kinds of transactions."

No one would have bought the lifetime sub for CO based on STO closed beta access if it said only one week or one day. Cryptic is violating the contract and needs to rectify it on Monday at the latest. Every single damned lifetime subscriber and 6mo subscriber should have had access day one of the closed beta. It's not our fault they caved in to Atari and let more people buy lifetime subs. We shouldn't be punished for that.

They've known how many people bought lifetime and 6mo subs for months now. They should have prepared for having that many people in the closed beta on day one. Anything else is negligent and deceitful.

im not sure if anyone has asked this and if they have i apologise for the repeat, but the application to join the closed beta is open to people in europe is it not? or is it just for those in america? I dont know why i think about this now, but i remember seeing that their is no info regarding a european release other than when it is due out. no information regarding pre ordering or bonuses, and i see 90% of the people peope who have been asking about getting into CB with having paid lifetime subs and such were americans. so I am just curios, as i am from the uk and applied to the closed beta as soon as it started and i havnt heard a thing yet. (ps, i havnt paid the co subs before you ask).

Default That's wrong.

Sorry, what? One day of access is, yes, just one day, but it is access nonetheless. They may **** people off by not letting them in at the start, but it did not specifically state when you would get in. So yes, if you did get in on the last day, they would not be breaking their contract whatsoever, since you DID get access.

If, of course, Closed Beta comes and goes, and you still don't have access, then you have grounds for legal action, since they would have broken their contract. Until then, I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait like the rest of us.

Hi everyone just joined and wow have they charged you people and now they are giving it away free?
I doubt us free users (pending) will get permanent free access,i bet it is to get more people to notice the game then they will take it away in the hope that we (the free) will buy a full copy or something.
I used to play Star trek elite force and have been off games for a couple of years but THIS got my interest.
Please forgive if i got this all wrong as there are a lot of pages here.......

Heres where i found out.....

Default come on...

<soapbox>

i know i'm saying this in vein, but come on. They didn't promise when you'd be let in. They promised that you would be included in the closed beta. even the guy who gets in the day before is technically "included". I know it sucks not getting in when you want to, but how many posts need to be made of people griping and whining and now talking about LEGAL action? You knew what you were getting into. and if you didn't, then maybe you should of done some more research or asked some more questions before you shelled out all that money under an assumption. Cryptic is doing what they can to get the game ready for everyone. in order to do that they need to gradually add new players to properly test and develop it into a release. You all sound like spoiled children who when told they will get a new toy tomorrow whine and scream, "but i want it NOW!". Come on guys. They're giving us what may very well be the greatest trek/gaming experience ever and we can't stop going on about how quickly you get into a closed beta. Has our instant gratification-focused society really gone so far as to see us turn into this? i applied for the closed beta. and i'm not in. and i will continue to check my status everyday(usually multiple times) to see if i get in. But if i don't, i will console myself that wether i get in or not, this game is likely to be amazing. and waiting a little longer is no big deal.

so, please. Give cryptic a break. You guys are b****ing about things you weren't actually promised. You can mince words and talk about how you "think" it should be all you want, but the truth is you are grown ups and need to be adult about this. You'll get in...at some point. and that is a provelage wether you paid or not(IMHO). So, let's please try and give cryptic the time and support they need without screaming at them every post about your own impatience.

Here's a justified *****. I honestly wasn't all that interested in the Star Trek beta, but hey, I bought the lifetime for CO, and then, just a week ago, got my email. 'You've Been Accepted!'. Alright, all's well and good, except, it doesn't work. And apparently, I'm not the only one. The download link only routes you to the front page, you're not allowed to ask for advice on here, and emails/pms to the moderators and Cryptic have gone ignored.

Seriously, what the hell?
