The squadron recruits starship captains to engage in its missions of deep space exploration, technology acquisition, and sector defense. We seek players who enjoy and will foster an atmosphere of friendly cameraderie, team work, and informal role playing. And at Ninth Fleet there is no need to serve months on end as a lowly crewman - all of our members are valued starship captains fulfilling a rank and role that you choose to portray.

CAPTAIN'S LOG

COMPUTER, RESUME PERSONAL LOG

Nothing lasts forever. The great Golden Age - the peaceful co-existence of the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans over the 40 years following the Dominion War has come to an end. Whether it was due to politics, long standing competition over territory or resources, or age-old distrust matters little now. Battle lines once again are drawn.

Yet, if you ask me, there is something strange about it all, something I cannot quite put my finger on. The situation seems to have changed quickly, as if the very fabric of the galaxy, and our lives, was altered. Was all of this caused by an undetected temporal incursion that changed our timeline?

Since the voyage of the original Enterprise NX-01, Starfleet has known about the Temporal Cold War, the attempt of sentient beings capable of time travel to change the past to create a future more in favor of themselves at the expense of others, including the Federation. We thought it had ended, but the Borg invasion of 2368 was a clear reminder that the threat of temporal incursion remains.

Despite directives to all service personnel to avoid time travel, and though it is not widely known, Starfleet Command has taken measures to monitor and preserve the Federation timeline. Starfleet has been monitoring all known or potential time travel events. Some even claim that a shadowy pro-Federation organization known as 'Section 31' takes matters into their own hands for this purpose...

With the recent tensions between the Federation and competing empires in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, the Federation again must mobilize for war. Our orders are to rendezvous with the Ninth Fleet at Deep Space Five, taking up a defensive position along what was known as the old Romulan Neutral Zone. There the fleet will stand watch.

But that is not all. We have been ordered to join a special operations unit of the Ninth Fleet known as Squadron Thirty-One. Starfleet Intelligence denies any association with Section 31, but one has to wonder at the coincidence given that Starfleet has rescinded its General Orders for this mission. This new squadron is said to be a task force designed for unusual spatial and temporal operations, ordered to preserve the Federation and its timeline at all cost.

Where, or when, our missions will take us not even Starfleet Command knows. All I know is that I have been assured by the Federation President himself that our assignment is of the utmost importance for the existence of Starfleet, the Federation, and Earth. Much remains a mystery. But I have no doubt that Starfleet's finest vessels and fiercest Captains are more than up to the task before us.
