Default Kobayashi maru Volume 4

You are assigned the task of designing the next Kobsyashi maru holodeck program for new captains. Your design will be judged against other holodeck programmers and the winner will be put in charge of hologram R&D at the Daystrum institute. What do you design?

Let the scenario begin!

If we choose your design, it will be featured as a volume in upcoming Kobayashi Maru scenarios.

It's been pointed out to me that this description and challenge may be vague and misleading. You're coming up with a challenge for the rest of the community. It isn't much of a contest as it is to see how creative you guys can get at critical thinking. This won't be going into the game, but the good ones will be featured in upcoming KM's. Please don't poste your solutions with your challenges.

You are the Captain of a new, prototype ship that uses a prototype quantum slipstream drive and transphasic torpedoes. On your maiden voyage, a cargo freighter sends out a distress call. A colony is directly near by, and long range sensors show a fleet of 5 Borg ships. You are the only Federation ship that could reach the colony in time, and even have a slight chance of destroying the cubes. However, you run a high chance of being assimilated, and if that happens, the Borg would have the most advanced technology available to the Federation. What do you do?

I'm uncertain of the rules here, but I shall cast out into the unknown, like any good captain.

My scenario presents the captain with a grave dilema. Your starship has detected instabilities in the emissions of a nearby star, which your science officer informs you is about to undergo a significant increase in energy output that will result in the sterilization of any life in the system. You decide to investigate the system and upon arrival detect lifesigns. One set of life signs are present on an m-class world orbiting the star within the lifezone and a second life sign eminating from the asteroid belt. Upon further investigation you discover that not only will the star's instability kill everyone at both locations, but it will happen in the next five hours. You have scanned both colonies and your scans tell you that your ship is only big enough to accommodate one group of colonists, leaving the other to its doom. What do you do?

Hope this is what you were expecting. Naturally, it is off the top of my head and need a little expanding, but I think the core of the idea is there. Thanks for read.

For 2 days you've been tracking a renegade Klingon Bird of Prey who is allegedly carrying the Scientist responsible for introducing a highly toxic poison into the atmosphere of a Federation planet. The toxin is slowly killing all of the vegetative life, and slowly causing respiratory failure in the inhabitants. Starfleet believes the Scientist might have an antidote or know the key molecular structure needed to produced an antidote. The best minds in Starfleet have been able to crack the code and time is fading fast for the millions of people on the poisoned planet.

Finally, after rerouting all nonessential systems to Warp Power your ship catches up the Bird of Prey, only to find it under attack by a Romulan Warbird just across the Border of the Neutral Zone.

The Romulans have made it clear in previous months that incursions into their territory will be treated as an act of War. Furthermore, neither ship will respond to hails.

What do you do?

You are the Captain of a heavy cargo freighter en-route to a Federation outpost a few light years away, 3 Breen war cruisers come out of warp and surround you, one of the war cruisers engages a tractor beam and locks on to your heavy freighter, what do you do?

The program would be.

The captain walks into the holodeck...

The Program engages...

ALL OF A SUDDEN.... you find yourself in the middle of the bridge. Consoles are exploding all around you. Crewmen lay dead at your feet. Smoke and fire cover the Bridge. Your Lt screams out

"CAPTAIN WE HAVE HULL BREACHES ON MULTIPLE DECKS, EMERGENCY FORCEFIELDS ARE OFFLINE ... MAIN POWER IS FAILING... WEAPONS ARE GONE"

A Ensign turn and says

"SIR THE BORG HAVE DESTROYED MOST OF THE FLEET... THEY ARE MOVING AWAY AND HEADING TOWARD EARTH... SIR THERES NOTHING BETWEEN THEM AND EARTH.... WHAT DO WE DO?"

The Lt. counters

"Sir we are in no shape to engage them. Almost all systems are destroyed."

You have a choice....

Do you pursue the Borg Cube or retreat?

You are placed in command of an Ambassador class ship. Your mission is to transport a diplomat to Romulus, to discuss a new treaty. Tensions between the Romulan Star Empire and Federation have been strained, and skirmishes in the neutral zone have already started. Starfleet informs you it is very important that the diplomat makes it to Romulus and diffuses the situation before a state of all out war exists.

While traveling through Romulan space, your sensors pick up a Romulan scout under attack by a Klingon Vor'cha class vessel. The Romulan vessel hails you are requests assistance. It is heavily damaged and moments from destruction.

Possible choices (but not all choices):

1. If you attempt to save the Romulan scout, your tactical officer will inform you that the only way to save it will be to lower your shields and beam the crew onboard your ship. Doing so will anger the Klingon vessel, and cause it to attack you. The Klingon vessel is an equal vessel to your own, and you will be putting yourself at a disadvantage if you chose this course. There is a chance your ship will be destroyed, thus causing the diplomat to die, as well as the Romulans you saved. If this happens, war with the Romulans, and the Klingons may occur.

2. If you chose to ignore the Romulan scout, the Romulans will learn about this, and your diplomatic efforts will likely fail. There is even a chance the Romulans will attempt to capture your ship and accuse you of working with the Klingons.

3. If you engage the Klingon vessel, you will not be able to save the scout, and will end up ruining relations with both empires.

The overall goal is to preserve relations with both empires, and get your diplomat to Romulus.
