Default Kobayashi Maru Vol. 2

This week’s exciting Kobayashi Maru scenario takes you to turbulent Romulan space. Can you solve this conundrum ?

You are the highest ranking officer sent in a delegation to broker a trade agreement between the Vulcans and Romulans. After the second day, there is an assassination attempt on one of your chief mediation delegation officials. Someone from either the Romulan or Vulcan party does not want this trade agreement to continue. How do you investigate and solve the crime without insulting either party in this sensitive dispute?

Let's the solving begin!

My first thought is to ask the delegations from both parties be transferred to my ship.
Once all the diplomats are onboard,we continue the negations entirely on board my command.
The ship will stay in constant warp, and our current location will not be publicly known.
That will anger the delegates, but at least they will be safer.

Allow word to get out that the attempt was nearly successful, and the victim is in the infirmary in intensive care. They may even be able to identify their assailant.

Now we set up a trap in the infirmary to catch whomever shows up to "finish the job."

#1 Pull security footage of the assassination attempt.

#2 If suspect is sighted bring him in for questioning secretly, if suspect is not in footage start pulling security logs of who entered recently entered the room.

#3 If assassination attempt is not in security footage then pull security logs of who entered or exited the ship before and after the assassination attempt.

I would let the Delegates proceed with theire work and but having both Delegations be observed and monitored secretly as well as everyone they had met with, if I find anything intriguing I would have another Team investigation in this direction without loosing the focus on both operations, trying to lead both delegations in some kind of trap where the assasin would reveal himself, like spreading false comments on the assasination attempt or fake the death of the victim and then reveal the victim to both delegations alive as to try to provoke a reaction of the Assasin or the assasins (hopefully they show surprise or something else)...

We cannot leave any members of both parties alone at any time and we must have security teams posted nearby in case of any emergencies

Address both the Vulcan and Romulans at the same time, in the same room, that someone is trying to disrupt the trade agreement. Ask for them to both provide assistance in a joint effort to catch whomever it is that would wish to do so. Make sure that both parties understand that neither party is being implicated and that it could be a non-Vulcan or non Romulan assailant and therefore security for the delegation officials should also become a joint effort. One Vulcan, one crew member and one Romulan security guard should therefore be assigned to each delegation official.

The crime would be solved thereafter since all parities are working together or one party is being disruptive.

Let it be known that the assassination attempt HAS succeeded. Then monitor ALL incoming and outgoing subspace traffic for messages to/from the assailant. They will assuredly either attempt to leave after the mission is complete or at least inform their conspirators of their success.

Use a Betazoid (or a member of another strongly telepathic race) to ferret out the guilty one(s) and bring them to justice.

Trade negotiations would be continued, assuring each party that delegations are top priorty as far as the Federation is concerned.
However, in secret, assemble a team to discretly investigate the assasination attempt but without being noticed or caught. This would include an illegally modified cloaked shuttle, isolation suits for covert spying...anything to find the assasin but have no one be the wiser as to what's happening.

Logic dictates that Vulcans would never plan such an emotional dispute of disagreement, unless it was a spy altered to look like a Vulcan, in which case he would be delt with while assuring the Romulans that the Federation has full support of the trade agreement.

If it had been a Romulan spy, they only force to pull such an assasination stunt would be the Tal Shiar. Romulans are obviously in need of the trade agreement and would not sabotage their own negotiations. The Romulan Senate does not approve of Tal Shiar dealings; handing over the assasin to the senate would show that the Federation respects their matters of internal security, and would hopefully make them agree and finalize the agreement.
