I'm really hesitant to make a thread about this because i know there's a million other threads about cloaking out there already. However i don't want to hijack anyone else's thread, and i'm really curious about the answer to this question.

So we know that during the TNG time period that the federation that the federation has agreed not to persue cloaking technology due to the khitomer accords. However during the STO time line the Federation and the Klingon's will be at war. Does this make the khitomer accords null and void and will that allow for the use of cloaking technology for the federation?

Again sorry about the new thread, i know its a relatively minor question, but i'm curious about what people think about this.

Thanks

i might be wrong here, but the federation cloaking denial was not from the klingons.
It was in the aftermath of the federation vs romulan war that that was negotiated.

In short, romulan rule has been destroyed by shinszon and thus in all accordance with any agreement the current agreement is no longer valid and the federation can proceed with cloaking tech.
Believe it was something along those lines or something.

You are totally right Than! It comes from the Treaty of Algeron which is when the federation agrees not to use cloaking tec.

Also, if you read the 100 other posts on cloaking this treaty has come up in very one of them. So what is the moral of the story... you decide.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Admiral Riker's trans-warp capable ship also cloak in one of the TNG movies? It was the 4 nacelle Enterprise IIRC.

Ahh ok, thanks for the info. Actually i did skim through those cloaking threads before i posted, but i never say anyone talk about my specific question. Then again most of those thread degenerated into arguments about the reasons why the federation should or shouldn't have cloaking anyways, so of course i didn't read each and every post. Anyways thanks.

It was the last epidosde of TNG and the ship was a Galaxy-X class ^^

And yes it did cloak, but this was possible because the Klingons conquerd the Romulans back then.

No Romulans -> no forbidden cloaking technology :)

@Topic: It would be cool if the federation would be able to cloak there ships. The Romulans might be convinced to allow it the federation after Shinzons "betraying"

I have to agree in regards to events in Nemesis. If anything, small science ships such as the Nova might be allowed to have cloaking technolgy, and the Defiant-class which has already had several fitted with cloaking devices (onscreen so it's canon). Not to mention that fact that while the Federation is driven by morals and the like, organizations like Section 31 operate outside the laws of the Federation and regulations of Starfleet, and thus would very likely already utilize cloaking tech on various ships, even civilian models.

Had they agreed not to pursue it, or to simply not use it? Slight but important difference to me :D

I think This Thread (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=8755&highlight=cloak+poll) preaty much covered the topic.

I've never really been in support of Starfleet using cloaks, it just doesn't seem to have the right "flavor". That said, I believe Jack's mentioned that Starfleet will have access to Cloaking technology. Can't remember which interview... but it was in one of the vids.

He has said that (though I can't remember where he said it either). I'm in favour of them for the Federation, although I think they should be rare/difficult to obtain, and that you can only use them on certain types of ship.
