Well I guarantee this stuff has been discussed but I want this stuff all cleared up. Okay, Shield Modulation. Will it be in the game, will it effect the game, will be an automatic thing in the game, will it be customizable to the situation, if it is customizable how will we interface with it. And one more small thing. As in Nemesis when the Enterprise was attacked by the Scimitar the Enterprise was Blind firing. Will that be apart of the game. If anybody can help it would be much appreciated.

We don't know yet. The best answer we have so far on any space combat is a description from teh GI article where they said that they reinforced their rear shields before a Klingon sneak attack could batter them.

Thanks, ya I read that article. I was hoping the community might of heard more. But I guess the ability to reinforce shields like that has the possibility for vast expansion. Just by chance what do you think the interface for something like that be.

I'm hoping nothing complex. I don't presume what the UI will look like, though I hope it's simple and easy to understand. It's one of the things I hope to see in future screenshots, because when it comes to games the first thing that interests me is gameplay, the second that interests me is the UI, which is another form of gameplay. If it looks like I need a slide rule to use the UI then my interest in gameplay dropped significantly. Graphics are a distant runner up to me, too many games go the way of graphics and neglect substance.

Ya, I kinda want to see the interface, something easy yet have trek written on it. I think we need a balance of of cannon and innovation for the interface.

i hope they take some of the ideas from that pirate mmo.
It would be nice if you could pull along side a ship if thats where your sheids are best or attack head on or from underneath.l
If different regions of the ship have different things you can knock out then the combat will be all about manouvering around in 3D space. I would much prefer tactical combat to just clicking on a spell bar.

There really isn't an angle most starships could not account for in the 24th century. Last place I would actually want to try and be is under a Galaxy or Sovereign class starship that could open fire with several of it's phaser arrays directly on you. The Sovereign, in particular, could fire at least 5 to 7 arrays on any ships beneath them.

I agree. If the combat starts needing complex attacks and defenses it will detract from the game. I remember something early on, I think with CO in which the developers don't like combos of more than three buttons...
but the point is that they are tuned in to the fact that we don't want to tackle a Multi-Tentacled Interface just to go into battle.
I played Champions Online at GenCon and since I didn't know the moves, I made the Cryptic Team member show me how battle plays out. He grabbed the Console Controller as a reflex (They had controllers hooked up to each computer) ... I Demanded, "No, You can't use that... Show me how to play with Keyboard and Mouse only !" He did....
CO has a wide assortment of attacks and defenses that are fairly simple and intuitive. But you have to use them, and use the right one. I think that could be related to the original post, I think we will see easy to use defenses and options much more than just "Shields Up".
