Razor had the chance to sit down with Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy last month at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. Read what Nimoy has to say about filming Trek, games, the new movie and more.
(The Enterprise crew) are good people doing good work for good reasons. I think that's terribly important, a big part of what the whole franchise is about: the hopefulness of the future, and professional people working together, successfully solving problems.

Very nice interview. Thanks, Razor - and thanks, Leonard, for taking the time.
I recently watched Star Trek IV again, and... yes. My favorite of the movies, bar none, precisely for the reasons he mentioned. The humor, the fact that everyone has something important to do... all of it.
Also, Scotty. Hello, computer!

After seeing Leonard Nimoy sans-Shatner at the convention in Vegas, he comes off as extremely intelligent and creative, and this interview supports that notion 100%. He also seems to really believe in the ideology behind Star Trek.
Basically: he's an awesome guy! Hopefully STO will really live up to his (and our) expectations.

I'm actually glad Mr. Nimoy brought up the issue of humor in Star Trek. STO would have an added layer of depth if the devs threw in an occasional joke or funny situation. Harry Mudd, anyone?

Yes, humor is very important in the star trek series. Hopefully Cryptic will heed Leonard Nimoy's call to incorporate intelligent humor in STO.

That one bit where he says that it's time for him to move on and to pass on the role of Spock was very, very good. Very few actors who have played such a pivotal role like Spock would be willing to pass it on, let alone with such grace and humility.

That was awesome. He's so clear at 77. Most people can't turn on the TV at 77. Star Trek IV was one of my favorites also. I thought it was hilarious, and a lot of fun. A very good movie. Can't wait to see what JJ does with the new movie.

I've always said that Leonard Nimoy would be one of the people that I would like to sit down and have a conversation with. This interview just cements that for me. You guys are so lucky to have had the time with him and I truly hope you got to chat about other things than just what was in the interview. :D

Agree with Leonard on the humour - definitely plays a part in all Star Trek series aswell as some of the movies.
Live long and prosper is the best he can do? I don't think he could have said anything better to be honest, I certainly hope he continues to do so! :)
Fascinating.

Having his thoughts and outlook for STO means a lot to me. Because I don't think he would say good things if he didn't mean it not in his nature. With his great words for the Actor playing Spock makes me even that more excited about the upcoming movie.

It's great to hear what one of the legends of the genre thinks of this game! I check this site every single day, often 3 to 4 times, and I'm always super excited to see an update. Thanks for bringing this interview to us!
In the immortal words of previously mentioned legend, "Live long and prosper." :D

Awesome read, Nimoy is probably one of the most intelligent actors of our time, he is a true renascence man. I highly recommend reading his books, especially I am not Spock, and I am Spock.

Good to hear from Nemoy. It was an interesting read.
Can't say that the new movie is the best Trek movie idea IMO...but I'll give it a shot and hope it turns out good.

Great interview from a great actor. Love Nimoy and the work he's done, he brought a lot to the genre. Humor being one of the biggest. His subtle eyebrow raises in the original, got me every time. hehehe. Him and bones going at it.

I also enjoy Leonard Nimory.
There was only one time that I was taken back a little by Nimory. Back in the early eighties while I attended Kent State, I was smart enough to obtain a season pass to all lecture hall speakers. Nimoy was one of the speakers. This was after his book “I am not Spock”. "Poems" and "In search of show" along with other tib Bits was the central theme. I was a little taken back. He barely mentioned Star Trek. AND I mean barely.
I understood what Nimory meant by his book, but it was disappointing. However, I can say that I met the man (special pass). John Walters was more memorial but hey......he is cool as well.
I wished the book ”I am Spock” was released back then......but that wasn’t the case. All in All: The character Spock still is my top two most loved Star Trek characters.

Wow, nice interview. Leonard Nimoy and his portrayal of Mr. Spock was always one of my favorite Star Trek characters. In a word; iconic, comes to mind.
Interesting to hear that STIV was his favorite film. I did like that one, but I really enjoyed STVI. It just seemed so "grown up" and very well written. It had a few moments of humor as well. Humor is a part of life and Nimoy got that "dead on" that STO should include some humor. It's part of humanity. Now obviously it should be in balance but I believe that all of the series always kept that in perspective.
Thank you for those kind words Leonard as I generally tend to like Vulcans what an appropriate way to end the interview.

Fellow Trek Fans;
Like yourself I am looking forward to the release of this game and have high expectations. As many of you might agree; the bar has been set for Online Gaming by 'World of War Craft' and 'Guild Wars', both excellent games in their own right.
However, the creators of those games did not have to work within 'Canon' that Star Trek is encompased. This 'Canon' must surley be both a blessing and a curse to the Cryptic developers.
I was in Vegas this past July and was privilaged to be able to get to the StarTrek Experience at the Vegas Hilton before it closed. I will alway charish the experience, though it was like attending a funeral. I was not able to attend the convention. But, I saw the vidio clip of the Games Represenitive, introed by Mr. Nimoy. I feel this is a possitive reflection on Cryptic and the attention Cryptic will apply to the quality of this game.

Good interview, but some of those questions are ones that he has answered in hundreds of interviews prior. I agree with most of the posts about Humor and most of Star Trek has had a touch of it here and there. I think Humor will be important, but I think using Star Trek to represent the time we live in will also be equally important. I hope that Cryptic will tell us a story about the world we live in and give us something to consider as I try to go from a small shuttle to a huge ship as I help keep the Starfleet way of life.
Thank you for the Interview.

This is SUCH an important quote... and why STO both has me hopeful and cynically despondent.
I'd love to see a game which actually encouraged and rewarded players to thought and acted in deep and meaningful ways for more then personal gain or ego-fulfillment.
And Im very afraid that its the exact opposite of what the MMO community is iikely to create in STO based on their performance in other games. Which gets us back to the idea of a "cannon server", maybe, but it would tkae a VERY good writer to explain the Star trek philosophy in a way the common MMO player raised on 2 Dimensional comic books and fantasy literature can grok it. And I have no idea how you would enforce it :(

On the subject of humor has anyone ever read the book TOS"How Much for Just the Planet"? That book cracked me up!! talk about funny situations!
