View Full Version : iconic items STO must have

this is not a list of demands
i have seen must have threads and ship threads with must haves on big items but what about just in game things that you need to have to make star trek.....well star trek. things like kill and stun. red alert sounds or an over the com "captain to the bridge" when something unexpected has happened and you aren't on the bridge. little things that would make the game stand out and make it more interactive. and an early bata would give time for fixes and ad ons. the devs are working with border line fanatic fans and we would love to help make sure this game is the best mmo ever.

one of the items i would love to see is in game voice command system for small things such as "lights" or in a turbo lift "bridge" you wouldn't have to use voice only but as an add on to make the game more fun for us all. if the voice was even hit and miss you could just press the button if you don't want to deal with it so it wouldn't hurt the game at all. to not have it at all wouldn't be better then the option of using it.

another thing i wouldn't know how to add to the game so maybe you guys could help is the replicator. every star trek had some form of this. it is an icon i would hate to leave out interaction with.

this is just some small stuff but you guys probably will have many more ideas then me.

Must haves for that Star Trek feel? Hmmm... mostly small things for me.

Well, firstly, every ship in the area receiving that 'We are the Borg...' speech whenever a cube shows up; it just wouldn't feel right without that.

The main deflector should play an obscure role in solving a wide variety of problems.

I will be quite disappointed if my first officer doesn't tell me off, at least once, for personally leading away missions.

Oh, and Admirals who insist on addressing me by my first name.

I think force fields should be involved on your ship some how. In the trailer we saw Klingons boarding a Starfleet ship, maybe we could use force fields to help hold intruders off.

Voice commands I can't see being included. Mainly for the technical issues. They won't have time in the development process to build their own voice recognition algorithms (no small task) for such small game features. They could always licence them from another company but again I doubt the cost of doing so would be justified by such a small addition to the game experience (that I dare say that most people will not bother using after the initial novelty has worn off).

Anyway, other things.

Lighting on the bridge going down and red lights coming up for red alerts.

The ability to eject the warp core! (I have no idea why or how the game mechanic would work but it's just cool)

Doing the emote /whistle will cause you to whistle "If I only had a heart" (in-jokes ftw)

Optional in-game voice chat (There if you want it but not mandatory)

Missions where you can't transport out without setting up pattern enhancers

keeping with just items like you said, I'd love to have the compression rifle Picard snapped over the Reman's head mounted and on display in my ready room.

As for more *clears throat* ICONIC items... I'd like to see the following:

The tricorders from Voyager's "End Game"
the phaser rifle from DS9 which was able to shoot through walls
Ablative hull armor
Transphasic torpedo's
Those freaky klingon chairs Worf had
A replica of Odo's bucket and his statues he used for shape changing practice.
Every captain of every federation vessel should get to choose a lucky tea cup or a lucky coffee mug.
Really bad oil paintings of our vessels doing mundane things (see TNG's walls...)
Little gold encrusted models of our ship, possibly of every ship we ever serve on (Like Picard having the Star Gazer in among his other models)
Gold pressed latinum, usable to gamble with at quark's
Lastly a mobile emitter for my vessel's EMH.

Turbo lift door opening sounds
Borg intro speach
Q popping in uninvited
Computer voice (Majel Barrett-Roddenberry) if nothing but general things
Red/Yellow/Green alarm lighting
Dedication Plaque on the wall

Little gold encrusted models of our ship, possibly of every ship we ever serve on (Like Picard having the Star Gazer in among his other models)I second this.

I think the biggest iconic thing we need in STO is the sounds we all remember hearing while watching our favorite show/movie.

Just noticed this one. I have to agree, however I see myself reacting much like Sisco, and doing something like socking Q upside his smug head... then dieing a horrible death.

I'm definitely seconding the idea of force fields. Especially since we continue to have such heated debate over boarding ships and the like. If we're even going to think about onboard combat, you have to have force fields. It adds to the tactics. Have you damaged the enemy ship enough to disable them and thereby, their force fields, or did you hold back in trying not to destroy them and leave them with the ability to trap your boarding party in a nice 8x8 foot square as soon as they beam over?
And by extension of this idea, prisoners. I definitely want to see a working brig. Maybe I can't put player characters in there, but I want to at least chuck some aggressive Klingon or rowdy crewmember into a cell :D

A lot of the crew got to sleep with aliens. Does that count as being iconic? And don't forget those consoles exploding with electric goodness. I want to see my bridge crew flyyyyyyyy!

I want to see the holodeck implemented into the game somehow. If only for space combat simulations against the Klingons, Romulans, Borg...whoever. But I feel the holodeck is a must. Or even if you have a mission and want to test the mission first and run in it in the holodeck just to see how difficult the mission would be before actually doing it.

For me, the items we as players collect in the game should be on display either in our ships briefing room or in the captains ready room/quarters (assuming these rooms are included).

I'd be interested in paintings, for example as someone already mentioned oil paintings of ships flying past nebulae or engaged in combat. But not only that I'd also like to be able to activly collect paintings of past captains, for example there could be a mission set that leads to some of these items, maybe to get items like a painting of Picard or Janeway.
Not just to limit to paintings I'd also be interested in getting models of past ships as already mentioned, but again I'd take that a step further and make a mission line out of it as not every player would be interested in collecting these items where as some players (like me) would chase those missions until the items had been given.

I remember in SWG there was the option of decorating houses that the player owned, I'd like to be able to do the same kind of thing in STO, for example in SWG I had a crafter make helmets up with the names of the Jedi I'd killed as a bounty hunter...to be able to collect items from races I'd engaged in combat, a borg neural processor or cybernetic arm for example would look nice on my ready room wall.

I'm getting the image from Voyager when the Hirogen took over the ship and forced the crew to partake in holo battles, Janeways ready room was decorated like a Hirogen room. Thats the kind of thing I'd like to be able to do.

I'm all for colecting items in games, I just like to be able to show them off more, not just put them in a bank (or cargo hold) and forget them they should be displayed somewhere in my game so i can remember the missions I've done to achieve them.

they could let you take screen shots of battles or in game stuff and then let you use the photos as paintings. that way it will only be star trek online allowed photos.

one more thing if they did have a voice command option you would be saying engage instead of listening to an sound clip of someone(sound clip should still be there for people that don't use the voice command).:)

I'd like to have any medals or rewards won hung up in the ready room or quarters.

I think there simply has to be some reason we interact with replicators often.

There should be a Ten Forward on every Galaxy class ship, and it's equivalent on other ships of appropriate size.

Sick bay, possibly with interactive holographic medical officer.

It would be nice if all the doors made a good Trek sound when they activated.

maybe they could think about ship energy stops or refills for deep space missions. like voyager fend for your self type stuff.

also it would be nice to play music in my room on the ship so if friends wanted to listen they could when they come on board my ship. so a small upload system maybe??? would be nice.

also what about star trek quotes on loading the game or in some missions.

-Sick bay stations with a generic humanoid outline on the wall display and random bio readings.
-Sick bay station with the curved body cover for surgery.
-That alarm that sounds when shuttle bay doors are opening and closing.
-(If holodecks do make it in) Computer... Arch.

the name of the ship on the side or front of the ship. that would be nice.

Space Station K-7
Guardian of Forever
Talos IV
The Shore Leave Planet (devs could have alot of fun with that!)
Risa
Spacedock
Starfleet Academy / Starfleet Command / Presidio
Nimbus III
The Badlands

I could go on and on.

As long as we're talking iconic here:

All ship captains should have any emote animations modelled after Kirk from TOS:D

I don't want little things :)
I want my ship too look like it was in a battle inside and out.

Riped out hull plating, force fields that prevent me from flying into space, engineering filled with plasma from the warp core, bits and peaces of my walls on the ground, the crew screaming and crawling to sick bay buhahahah

Ahh yes it just would not feel the same without it
