A piece of information I gleened from the Vegas Webcast, and one I have been dreaming about since, was regarding the universe being a dynamic one. With it being dynamic that would mean that the surface or storyline of the game would change as time goes on. Player choices and actions would have a meaningful effect on the way the game progresses, a very fun thought and one that lends itself to an ever changing geo-political universe!

With those premises in mind, wouldn't it then fit that the outcome of some high level diplomatic negotiation, at one point in time, or the result of a truely epic battle at another point in time, allow the game to enter and exit different phases of play emphasis as the time passes after launch?

So what I am trying to get at is, maybe we start out at launch with an uneasiness between the Federation and the Klingon Empire ...but no war. Missions could be designed around this, diplomatic missions, covert missions investigating different conspiracies and certain events could take place that put us into a fullscale war.

Maybe this war would last for a month or two....then Cryptic could at that point put in place a set of missions that would allow the period of war to come to an end. This new truce could last for a month or two again...the times I am stating could be any...six months, a week, three days ..whatever you get the point.

This varying degree of tension between the two factions could allow each factional side to have a new slew of non-military missions. Exploration for each faction could advance in levels of progress, factions could have time to discover new planets with new minerals that would allow for new technologies and new races to befriend. Fleets would then have the opportunity to set up mining platforms and ship yards to construct the next era of ships and advance their social networks. New trade routes could be established, races just discovered could undergo the scrutiny of the faction they are being coveted by to be brought under their factional umbrella.

This could go on this way for a long enough period of time to allow Cryptic to at some point put in place missions again to allow war to possibly begin anew. However maybe after going in and out of a state of full blown war for a year or so, Cryptic is ready for an expansion to hit (because we will be ready for new content ;)) and they use a conspiracy cooked up to make it look as though those nasty Kilngon are back at it again trying to start a war.....but heh it's actually the Romulans that are perpetrating this upon our new colony in sector XYZ. Voila...welcome to STO the Romulan faction...

The same kind of thing could bring in a nuetral faction.....the ferengi maybe? This could take trading to a whole new level and allow the population to adjust itself to different more conveient regions in space.

Anyways I am getting tired of typing now, just wanted to share to idea I had of what is possible in the persistent, dynamic, ever changing universe we all long to soon call home ..... the Star Trek Online universe.

Share your thoughts on this and maybe some tweaks you might suggest.

This could really lead to some exciting ideas for the game that maybe the devs might take note of.

Live long and proper.

If you talking about dynamic hostilities as in becoming hostile flagged to Fed then later to Romulans I think that may be a good idea. It will change things up to be flagged against one faction then flagged towards another (or even both) later as the story changes.
