View Full Version : Will we still get a HUB ship to meet on in STO?

I know PE when they had the game planned on having a HUB ship to jump start your missions from, and we couldn't control this type of ship. Also it was going to have all the bells and whistles you could ask for, and you could go just about anywhere to explore on this ship, if you wasn't working on or at one of the stations.

I also had the idea of turning one of these HUB ships into a guild fleet ship, where you could take it to different systems, and have your missions from there.

But has this basic idea been trashed in CS version of STO?

IMO I feel this idea still should happen, be it a general ship to use by the DEV team, or smaller version to be used by guilds. But no matter how you look at it, we should have a few HUB ships in the game, with all the bells and whistle to go with them. I think this would be the middle ground to this on going debate on bridge crews, plus you add the other areas of the ship, even the craw spaces between the decks. :D

I don't like the idea of a HUB ship. I wanna be free to explore how I want to explore. Besides, with long range communications, why would you need to go to a hub to get missions? In CoV, all contacts have "phones" after you meet them and do a mission or two for them.

We can meet in ship yards and space stations and planetside facilities. These places should be great for added content and activities

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than a HUB ship :)

Well the 1st idea of the HUB ship, was so you could work your skills at the different stations, and you could get missions from there to do. Plus it would be on ships from the show, but like I said I feel this setup would be better under a guild system, along with having a fully working starbase. One you can walk around in, and work from.

We also have viewscreens, subspace communication. why would we need a 'jumpstart' on anything?

won't it make sense to make Space stations hub places, and have the Earth and Kronos be capital worlds for the STO factions.

I agree. Or you could meet me in my briefing room before we go on a mission... or I in yours. :)

I am hoping we have ture HUB bases too, nothing like you see in EVE online, but a place you can walk around in, and meet up with your friends. The Ship idea just goes back to what PE was doing, and besides you could use the different rooms, like you seen on the shows. The only problem was you had no control of the bridge, but everything else you could interact with.

I think the real question here is, how does the player get missions? Is it through a quest hub (like a hub ship or starbase) or do you just "call" them via subspace, from the convenience of your own bridge viewscreen?

I think a combination of both would be nice. Maybe when you're in a specific area of space, you can have access to a certain set of missions instantly via subspace comms. But then again there are certain people you can't quite meet through those official channels, so beaming over to pick up the mission for them personally would be more viable.

I'm not sure if hub SHIPS would be best for this, unless they are very famous and/or large ships, where going over and exploring them and picking up in-person missions.

Yeah, somehow I just don't see 100 players all parking starships around a galaxy class vessel that never moves much anywhere itself. It just wouldn't feel right. Having starbases is just a better way to do this. That said, I LOVE the idea of being able to meet aboard other players vessels. There'd just be nothing like having a fleet captain meeting in some large room on board the largest ship in the fleet.

Space stations like DS9 I bet will be what you might consider a "HUB". I'm actually looking forward to hanging out in the Hub while my ship undergoes repairs, etc, and I can chat with others and look for groups, etc.

Except I'm not looking forward to the trade channel trolls again, but whatever, I'm sure they'll be there too:

Same here. I wouldn't mind repairs taking a while (5-10 minutes depending on damage), so long as I have a place to socialize and hang around.

Starbases and planet-side cities seem to be the most plausible, as said several times before. I hope they're really filled-out, too. With restaurants (maybe more for social means rather than eating means), plentiful shops, minigames, and other areas.

I also agree that the game needs locations like this to encourage player interaction, and I hope that the developers have implemented something similar.
