View Full Version : Admiralty in STO? A leadership system.

Will there be some sort of leadership system where players can vote for a leader, to help keep factions together and coordinate fleets, attacks, and other stuff for best effeciency?
in Star Trek terms, it would be Admiral for the Federation, Chancellor for the Klingons, and (if Romulans becomes a playable faction) Praetor for the Romulans.

I will never submit to the tyranny of the majority in a video game I pay for.

indeed, that would rather silly (although star trek does tend to follow such a model) perhaps such high leaders may aquire access to a global chat channel in order to held lead each faction (like which areas are best to go in pvp, which area we should take next in such) however in pve, this would have much less bering... however for the most part in pve the captians usualy the highest rank around, and you'll be taking orders anyways, but it would be from npcs instead of humans ;)... the whole rank structure sort of made me wonder how they'd ever make star trek into a viable game, its sure to be fun, but unless you're in an rp fleet, it probably wont have the *exact* trek experience most hard core fans might expect, but thats why you can turn off chat channels =)

in game voting = who has the most alts and/or fake "kindness" just to get people's votes. how about we leave the sleazy politics to real life and let our games be about fun? ;)

Unlikely to exist. Since admirals will be giving us our Starfleet missions, we'll most likely never be able to be an admiral.

Never.
Game breaker as far as I'm concerned.
Wouldn't play the game. Would walk away the minute any such feature was announced.
I don't say that lightly either. I dearly want to play the Star Trek MMOG, and I could handle a lot, and I do mean a lot, going into the game that I didn't agree with to play it. Not something even similar to this though.

For their fleet only... not for the entire game. But, I would support it and would likely be a member from Cryptic studios... Only them can rule. Perhaps, later for players.

Every 2 weeks have the top players selected from a race and offer them a leadership position. They can accept it or turn it down where it's given to someone else. Regular players can vote to have someone removed to they're not doing their job.

Any place 2 or more humans get together, politics is sure to follow.
I'm sure Cryptic will leave the politics and rank structures/group dynamic to the Fleets, since they form by choice.

I think your idea is interesting but many people would disagree with the leader and the politics would sour the game for most I think. Jack did say that people could form fleets like a guild though, this might be a good place to appoint leaders and vote for those you wish to follow.

I think that the OP is refering to the leadership of Guilds or Fleets. This I would support what the OP is saying.
But if he is talking about a leadership for the entire Federation, Klingons and whatever races are available, of the entire game, or server, itself? Absolutely not.

I think in "Fleets" or "Guilds", that we can deffinately expect to see a promotion to Admiral.
That being said, I would not like to see anyone achieve anything higher than Captain.

unfortunately, i do not think that is what he is talking about. though he uses the word "fleets", the general sound of the idea is that someone is in "charge" of the entire faction, not just a guild.

i think fleets and guilds will come up with their own ranks(as they do in other games), but those ranks will mean nothing outside of their member roster. a persons "real" rank will be what their rank is with their faction.

"To help keep the factions together and coordinate feelts, attacks and other stuff"? Ummm note the use of factions and fleets the plural.
