View Full Version : A perfect time for a cut scene

I think every time we choose to change ships we should get a cut scene of picking up the ship in dry dock. A slow motion camera shot of the ship and a slow motion shot of our captain avatar walking onto the bridge for the first time that ends with a close up of the dedication plaque.
Even if these were the only cut scenes in the game I'd be amazingly happy.

I like the far away shot of the ship in drydock, zooming slowly in and panning around the ship. Thats a nice view and itd be a great cutscene :)

I think it would get a tad annoying by the time you got to your third ship, IMO.

Most games have the ability to skip cutscenes. Especially MMOs.
I'd love to see it, though.

I haven't ran into a single one that lets you skip a cut scene, of the two MMOs that I have played. One being City of Heroes.

Eh, maybe it only happens when u first start the game and you get your first command.

While I'd probably watch it every time, I'd be fine with the option to "hit the space bar" to skip it.

Guild Wars allows it.

I would be fine with scenes like this as long as the ability to skip them was implemented just in case.

I'm not averse to the idea, but I think I'd rather hop into a shuttle and fly around my new ship on my own. :)

id love a Transporter cut scene when u beam in/out...give that authentic trek feel :P
i think the ideas you had are good but there shouldn't be too many cut scenes because in my mind it becomes something like a singleplayer game. so up to 10 different kinds of cut scenes are ok but not more in my view.

Next time you're in a cut scene mash on your Esc key three of four times; does wonders to shorten them things up when you want to cut to the chase.

I like cutscenes in those cases you mentioned.
I would like a good performed cutscenes in the main story, and some quests like "a klingon eating ratch" or "two vulcans ins a conversation" and some graceful anecdotes!
An option to skip it must be implemented.

City of Heroes/Villains cutscenes (what few there are) are typically used to impart story information to the player, though. They likely don't want players skipping those. ;)
Here, I think we're just talking about "beauty shots". Myself, I'd like them if you could skip them when they got old for you. Either by Esc key or Menu choice, I don't think it's impossible now.
Best,

Cut scenes would be great, I know I wouldn't skip them. If you think about it, your first ship is likely gonna be a shuttlecraft but once you've acquired something larger like a Defiant class or Nova class, it will be worth seeing with some great Trek music playing in background for when the ship breaks free of shipyard.
I'd like a droping out warp cut scene everytime you enter a system for the 1st time

You know I was just thinking about this very same topic earlier today. I would really like to see this! Yes im sure it would get old, but being as it isnt giving you vital information im sure you would be able to mash a key to skip through it.
For me Id like the scene to start with the navagational lights flicking on. The floodlights that light up your ships name. A quick fly around of the ship. Mabye even a shot of some crewman in enviro suits standing upside on some type of rigging looking on at your ship. And finally right before your ship leaves that fantastic shot of the side of your ship as it moves past the viewing lounge and than out into space.
Im not sure if they even are considering doing anything like this. But Id be really surprised if this didnt happen for at least your first ship.

Option: Skip New Command Cutscene Yes, No
And yes, definitely. I just rewatched Insurrection the other day and the end scene with the ship in spacedock is so cool. Of course, the easier way to do this instead of a cut scene is to have shuttles we can take out to look at our command. That way, if you want to, you can. For those who don't care, well, so be it. I bet there will be a lot of movies people make of them taking a new command.
Oh, and don't forget the even more important cutscene: the intro. Every Trek has had a really cool intro featuring the ship (except Enterprise, which was just weird). Personally, I would like to see the opening cutscene your character's ship in a canned sequence. If they do it, I know a lot of people will have their own voice narrating the Trek into: "Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship ..."

I like the idea of an intro video with a "Space, the final frontier..." bit. Maybe not forced to watch it every time I log in (though maybe the option). I think it would be relatively simple to set up, all you need is a few pre-programmed moves past planets and nebula, a few musical scores and the option to either use a stock voice, record your own or none at all. It could even flash up your crew names as credits.
Not a cut scene as such, but I do like the idea of my captain in space dock (maybe talking to the base commander) with the ship behond a window in the background.
