Will the game use webcams?

I'm just sitting down watching Star Trek (TNG Episode The Battle) and it got me thinking when they opened visual contact witht eh Ferengi, would we be able to do that in game game and use our webcams as such? I think it would be a really cool way to roleplay in the game to have visual contact between ships on the view screen using webcams, any thoughts?

Imagine, you will be in your bedroom behind you there is your bed, you lamp, your window, it may be the morning you will drink a cup of tea (or coffee) and you will have a tired face :D.

And you won't wear a uniform.

For the Klingon, you are a klingon....so... it will be hard for the roleplay.

I don't know about impossible, but certainly not rational. I definately wouldn't use that feature, who knows when you'll answer a hail, put it on screen, only to see some ******* little kid mooning the camera. Meh, I'll stick to in game avatars any day.

Well yea good points, Imagine you see someone like that fat geek in the South Park episode with WoW in it.
Oh well never mind, maybe voice to voice would work.

Anyway youre all right, in theory it would be good, but in practice with the kind of idiots you get in MMO games it could be the most annoying idea ever.

What's wrong with playing girl toons? Now males who play girl toons and trying to "use" that toon for inappropriate things is bad, but one is not a given of another.

Noone ever needs to see my fat, shirtless, unshaven, messy-haired self at 3am. Heck, I don't need to see myself like that!

On the other hand ... if there's an option to take a picture of yourself, and have your FACE - just your face - used for your in-game avatar (complete with digital "bumpy forehead makeup" for Klingons and other aliens) ...? That, I could go for. Shift skin tones around, add aforementioned "look, I'm an alien! REALLY!" facial features/details, and throw that face on one of several standard in-game bodies/uniforms? That would be cool.

I know I wouldn't use it. I don't have a webcam. Besides imagine the load on the server having to relay thousands of video images around.

I was think about this idea and i decide i did not like the webcam idea but it be very good if when chatting to some one you could use your view screen and see there ship and they can see your ships bridge

Yeah I would be afraid to accept a visual because you will never know what delta alpha will be on the other end.

I wouldn't go for it personally 2 reasons, you ppl scare me!!!! only joking :-p 2nd reason is it could lead to alot of abuse, look at it this way, in wow you get badgered by porn sellers, in STO you could get badgered by currency sellers and porn site ppl... i think it would be much more acceptable if your viewscreen responce was from where you were on your ship when the hail comes through.

i think hailing frequencies should allow voice coms but not necesarily visual.

i mean some of us like to play naked :D

You were being mild! I can picture several scenarios that out-worse this. :)

One extreme: Fully decked-out federation officer (complete with pimples) spouting regulations and trek-jargon.

Other: Dude with four day old 5-o'clock shadow with dirty teeshirt and an almost finished bottle of Jack Daniels.

I fall somewhere in the middle. (No, not pimpled booze-hound). :)

I don't think that webcams will be a part of the game, nor do I think they should be. A lot of players like the relative anonymity that massively multiplayer online games offer, and I think that involving webcams could negatively affect the game as a whole.

web cams will be funny for five min as long as mine is turned of i don't want my ugly face all over the Internet:D.

But i would like to open Com's and see you character and you mods on the bridge your crew collected from the different worlds you have been.
