Just wanted to see how many console 360/PS3 owning trek fans are out there. I have 360 and really want to see this released, i think the game will run great using the control pad and keyboards won't be a problem for use either, so no pc users posting about dumbing down of the game controls please as this won't be a issue at all. And yea i've read the moans about kids using 360 etc but lets face it there's just as many kids using pc's as there is 360 so i don't think this will be problem.

It's high time MMO's made the jump to consoles as the next gen machines can easily handle them, not to mention your opening them up to a far bigger gamer base. I'll getting Champions online for 360 and i'm really lookig forward to it. And having read some of Q+As about the 3rd person real time action on both STO and CO i'm guessing the control pad will be very suited to this. I just hope we can all (PC and console) play on the same servers. it's been done already with vista based games on xbox live so it shouldn't be a problem.

i've got a 360, but i plan to stay with the PC... one thing you might want to think about is the added cost for having it on the Console... for example witht he 360, you have Internet bill ($65 roughly for me), Xbox Live (i do annually i think it's also $60), Now your adding the SUbscription of the MMO ONTOP of that.. which is usually $14-$20 a Month... this is another reason why i stick to PC for MMO's

i'm pretty sure you'll only need a silver account for it as with FFX and PSU. I want it on the 360 because i doubt i'll be upgrading my pc anytime within the next 2 years. So there's no extra cost really.

I really don't want to speculate ( a qualifier used to disavow my self-absorption )
but....

I think you can count on the 360. If they did it for CO, it seems a bad move not to do it for STO too.
All the PC centric people and past threads regarding this issue are confusing the issue that this will be very much console playable. When I played CO at GenCon. I noticed that the team that was there from Cryptic couldn't stop using the Consol type Controllers on the PCs. With one developer I asked him to show me gameplay as he played it ... I was like "STOP THAT" and I tried to get him to use keyboard/mouse only and although it could be done, it made him very uncomfortable because they play alot with a console controller.

I think that's evidence enough.

Galv

great stuff, glad to hear that. And yea i'm very confident about a 360 version, not sure what sort of extra time they'd need making it for the PS3 but i'm pretty sure they could just port the 360/PC version over to it.

I believe MMO games work best on the computer. This is based on my experience with a free beta test for EverQuest on the Playstation 2. My biggest issue was commotion. They is no keyboard you can plug into the Playstation 2. (Unless it is out there and I do not know about it.) So instead I have to press a button (think it was R2 but not sure) to open a window with a keyboard then use the direction pads to select letters and press another to type letter. This made simply saying “Hello” a slow process.

If you are wanting a console like controller they do make such controllers that you can plug into your computer. I have a controller made by Logitech that looks very much like a Playstation controller. These controllers will not work for every game out there but they work for some.

I don't get what the difference is. If you are paying for your X-Box live already anyway, what difference does it make whether you pay your subsciption for the game on X-Box or PC?

Yea i've had some problems on live but no more adults the mute button sorts that out, but on the whole i find most kids are not a problem at all, only bad thing is they make me feel very old and question whether i'm getting to old to be playing games.

You'll also be adding more adults with consoles. I know people in their 40s who use a 360 and although they have PCs, they will often use their consoles for their gaming. 360 controllers can be plugged into a PC, keyboards can be plugged into 360s so their is little reason you can't play how you want too. As for graphics, I would have thought having to cater for consoles would be seen as a good thing as consoles are built for graphics and they'll need to be good to compete.

My 360 will easily run a game better than my current PC (though I am hoping to upgrade soon) and if a console version is available I will probably go for that. I know the console will run the game, but you can never be sure with a PC that there won't be some issue or another. I also get to play on a bigger telly and it leaves my PC free to do other things.

I own a 360 & PC, and I'm certainly hoping for a console port. Theres no reason why they won't be able to play on the same server(s). It's actually already been done almost 7 years ago with FFXI. PC/PS2/360/PS3 players all play amongst one another. And no you don't need a Gold Live subscription to play a monthly fee based MMO.

While at times I would like to play on my PC, there are other times I would just like to kick back and be able to play in comfort with a Pad and a wireless keyboard.

I don't think there's any evidence of that... and you completely left out total revenue from the equation. I don't think there is any way they could have less gross sales with more platforms. Development cost is the reason you don't see more multi-platform games, not lower total sales or lower gross monthly revenues.

Legacy is an XP only resource hog. I play it on my quad-core nicely.

I think STO won't have the requirements people expect but by then you'd better expect to have a little muscle... I'm guessing it will lag on anything less than a dual-core 8800gt or better system.... that's pretty mild if your talking about gaming a year from now. I would love to see it on the 360 but not in place of a PC release but AS WELL AS..

they are doing a joint PC/360 release with Champions online and the game uses the same base engine so it should reasonably be able to be PC/360 joint release without too much bother..whether they do with STO or not remains to be seen.

If it was 360 as well as PC id probably get the 360 version as im doing with Champ online as then I dont have to worry about specs, i just put the disc in, switch it on and play..hassle free. If need be just add a usb keyboard for chatting and all is good.

Now if they could release a touch screen style control method that looks like a LCARs display for the game id be very happy lol.. but anyway...

I will play this on Xbox360. I know it will run on it if its made for it. I just hope and pray that they do something with voice chat between the PC and 360. Every cross platform game I have played has sucked for voice communication.

I personally would like to see my paid subscription allow me to play on both PC and 360 (providing i purchase both games of course) that way when the big screen is in use , i can just log on with the PC.

Keep in mind that you will more than likely have to install the game to your 360, just like you would on PC. But yes, it does relieve a lot of worries about how it will run if it's on a console. :)

Because it would expand the audience of the game, I wouldn't mind if Star Trek Online was playable on consoles as long as there wasn't a noticeable difference between players who only play on console and those who do not. I'm not sure how they'll get around the chat problem, more than likely you'll be able to chat to other xbox live users, but i doubt we'll be chating PC to 360.

I remember my Mrs having FXI on the 360 and we had to install it, not sure how much space CO or STO will take up but i can only free up 11GB on my 20GB harddisk, might have to invest in the 120GB soon.

And i worry also that my crappy laptop isn't going to handle CO or STO as it can't even run Legacy properly, about the best it can do is run games like Elite Force 2 and i really can't afford to invest in any sort of upgrading and i'm not even sure i can upgrade my laptops graphic card, it's only a ATI X1200 in a toshiba.

That alone is a very, scary thought. He was more comfortable with a controller than a mouse/keyboard..

Just how simplified is that UI for that Game?

Also, if CO flops on the 360, count on Cryptic reconsidering signing a contract for STO on the 360 as well.

It's not necessarliy that it's a simple UI (though I would ask why that has to be a bad thing), a joypad is designed to be comfortable. It's curved to fit in your hands, a keyboard and mouse aren't. Your hands don't need to move at all with a controller, whereas with a keyboard your hands are forced to hover over it and move around (especially if you're only using one because the other one is on a mouse). You can also shift seating position much easier, in fact you don't have to be seated at all if you don't want too.

Yeah, FFXI's UI is far from simple. I remember playing it on the PC for years and could never imagine how people can play the game with a pad. I got it for the 360 and I never wanted to use a keyboard and mouse for it again. (Granted, I still use a keyboard for chatting though)

Yea i never played FFXI myself but the Mrs did enjoy it, from what i can remember it's very slow turn based combat anyway wasn't it?. And i'm guessing from what i got from the video that STO won't need that many controls with the planet side action being 3rd person real time combat, and with the starship battles your not going to need much for that either, 2 buttons for phasers and photons, 2 for impluse speed, 1 for targeting with radial menu for targeting systems and probably 1 for manageing your own ships systems. Can't see it taking a complicated UI system really.
