Seems one of the most awaited computer games would turn into reality with this one :)

I have just dicovered it and gladly joined the comunity.

However I have some questions I was not able to lear about while reading the avalible information.

Is this going to be a first person or a third person sim? The crew members footage I saw on the Trailer looked to be third person wich in my opinion takes away much of the "inmersion" into the game, however I hope we can have 1rst person.

I am actively playing other MMORPG and I would like to say something about what I read on the forums about multimanning a starship bridge.
There are always the people that like to play lone wolf and the people that like to play as team. Both must have their space here.
However playing as team must have its bonus and thus the starship perfomance should not be the same if manned by one person than by 10.
of course this would also depend of the complexity of the systems of the starship. if you can manipulate all systems with a single joystik haveing on the screen ALL information avalaible (Sensors, weapons, engine, navigation....) then instead a Fleet Starship you are commanding a "fighter".
However if the Starship have multiple stations so to visit one you must leave the other (thus not having access to the other station) then surely a multimanned starship would have a clear adavantage vs one that is controllerd by a sole person pretending to control it all.
I guess this will of course depend of the size of the Starship. Some unist would be designed to be manned by one person while other Fleet Starships by its size and role would require a crew.

I hope we have the chance to switch between manning a starship and then turn into first person for moving around it or moving to some other ships or planets.

Happy to learn we will have a MMORPG Strar Trek!!!!

Welcome aboard!

I also hope there is an option for first or 3rd person view when doing away missions. We are all waiting for further information about PC/NPC crews.

If that's a list of questions, I might be able to help you if it was arranged in some type of list.

Ship combat will be third person only -
and the rest of your post has more things that will not happen,

...and anything about Roleplaying Multiplayers on the Bridge, I just straight out do not believe you haven't been able to find an answer, or would post outside the sticky

I sense an agenda

Please enunciate...

KO_Gilligan, are you sure ship combat is 3rd person only?

I haven't found official statement. I for myself do prefer 3rd person on both ship and away mission, but normally you can zoom in so close that you are in 1st person. In Klingon Academy this was also possible ... so it could be that STO 1st person space combat is included by just zooming in so close that you don't see your ship anymore but only the area in front of your ship.

Well I hope this does not turn out like that. Third person view is good for super arcade games but surely not for "inmersive simulations" where you pretend the players feel part of that universe.
Would be a sad developement.

One of my favourite gams was The Fallen, that was a very nice first person one.
regarding the Starships, if they really want it to feel like commanding a Starship I hope they have the option to command them from INSIDE using multiple consoles (navigation, tactics, sensor, engine.....)
I am not really interested on commanding a starship just watching the stern and having 5 keys for primary weapons, second weapons, turbo and so.

I would wait for developers to give more information.

I seen this one coming.... well it has been discussed, and I gave you the answer and you could have gotten it from countless other threads or from announcement info... it certainly won't be available at launch.

But this thread just sunk into another agenda pushing "I haven't seen this mentioned" about something that the RPG crowd has been beating to death in hundreds, if not thousands, of other posts.

Thanks for the answer. The ammount of information on the forums is very big and not easy to explore it fast.
Actually I am surprised about the ammount of people interested on the game before it has even a release date scheduled. This surely would be a winner if the manage it properly.

As for me as I said no matter how much I like Star Trek I would not be interested on a 3rd View ship/person game, mostly because it is not inmersive enough for my taste and I am more interested on 1st Person ganes.

I will certainly keep an eye on this one to see the final features and projects.
That I do not like 3rd view games does not mean it is a bad game or have no future at all, it is just my personal tastes and what I expect from an inmersive game that intends to reproduce a Universe.
I am sure there would be thousands of players that would be happy with 3rd view and "controlling" a Starship from outside.

lets wait and see, and if anyone have any additional information about this please let me know.
LOL I would subscribe today to the game if it would be 1st person. :p

3rd person combat sounds more likely if were viewing the ship from outside. if we go INTO the ship during combat, maybe it switches to 1st person

Sometimes it is very nice to be able to see the ship from outside but to be realistic, it has to be managed from inside via control consoles on the bridge.
Since I guess this ship can transport other players, either crew or scientifics, those are supposed to actually walk inside the ship.
in some of the screens of the Trailes we have seen, you can see some players actually fighting inside one starship (or it does look like it). This is just good.
Now it would be nice to know if the actual people "flying" the starship does it as "flight simulator" from the bridge or just make move the outise model of the ship seen from outside as arcade.

To KO_Gillian. Thanks for the link but despite the excellent graphics and the FPS features that is not my kind of game.
Star Trek Online could surely be my game if it has 1rst person features like The Fallen

I think it's going to be very Bridge Commander style where you have both for ship to ship. But we know away missions will be 3rd person, fast action shooters.

Why 3rd person instead 1st person?
This game seems not to be adressed only to shooting and 1st person is more inmersive for the player. IMHO

I'll confirm Dave's statement above. Jack's specifically referenced Bridge Commander on a couple of occasions.

Yeah....
Well that's what they're going to do. Fast paced action away missions.

It is definitely not aimed mostly at shooting. To get yourself up to speed, here are some helpful links, take a look:

Fast paced action on away missions, Jack mentioned Tabula Rasa as one of the styles that they're looking at. For space combat, think Tallships or the Wrath of Khan, with a Bridge Commander style of interface.

When I played BC my first thought that this was the first step to that "perfect" Star Trek Game we all have beem thinking about. That fusion of control from the bridge and toggle to see the outside. The ability to command each station from the chair or to go to each station to micromanage. Through playing that whole game my only frustration was not being able to stand up and walk to the turbolift and stroll the decks of my ship.If Craig and Jack are thinking in that direction from my view it can only be a good thing.

By the way Kinjiru means "forbidden" in Japanese. Can you guess my name?

Of course, a truly honorable sword.

j/k, I had to look it up. :)

I first learned the word "kinjiru" in the book Shogun, by James Clavell, one of my favorite books of all time, and a fantastic look at medieval Japanese politics, society and lifestyle.

I have seen the interview and I have to say I liked it. Specially when they said that they just do not want to have just another MMORG with Star Trek uniforms but actually to bring Star Trek to life.

The bridge Commander interface is just nice and besides that Tabula Rasa game uses a nice 3rd person characters, I still hope we can have 1st person charcaters in STO. 1st person is even faster in acction that 3rd person but at the same time more inmersive.
Those of you that have played The Fallen know what I mean.
They also mentioned that ship combats would be something more slow and tactical that removes my fear of arcade space fighting
All in all I like the project and I think Cryptic is on a good path.

That book and "Yojimbo" turned me on to Japanese culture. It eventualy led me to martial arts and to discouver Kozuri O'Kami (Lone Wolf and Cub). Loved the name of Asayamons sword so took it as my handle.

Anyway. Back on topic.
