Since ive seen no topic concerning how will repairs/rearming and logging off work.
1.Repairs - will ships be able to repair during combat (subsystem reparis ? hull repairs ? etc) or will they need to return to a station if they suffered heavy hull dmg (not destroyed/disabled)
2.Rearming - well this should actualy fall in the same part as repairing,if your weapon subsystems are destroyed (if they can be),will you need to return to a base to get new ones?
3.LOGGING OFF (in caps because it deserves extra attention) - how will it work ,can you log off anywhere? ... will your ship warp in a random direction when logging off in the middle of nowhere (like in EVE)... will there be a cooldown before your ship enters warp if recently it engaged another player in pvp ?
Your thoughts ? Suggestions ?
Have I used too many question marks in this thread ?

There's been some debate about the need for repair, but I haven't seen much about rearming or logging off.
It's unknown if STO will have consumables. But I think at the very least torpedoes would be in limited quantity aboard a ship. I think each ship should be able to hold a maximum number of torpedoes. Once these are used up, ships would have to return to a starbase (either NPC or guild-Fleet controlled) and restock their supply. Perhaps torps would cost a moderate amount of resources or mission points to "buy."
As for logging, I was thinking about starting such a thread myself. I like the idea of randomly warping away. I would also hope / assume that players could dock their ships at a port and log off there. I suspect there would have to be some sort of PvP allowance made. Players might not be able to safely log off until 5 minutes after a battle, or something similar. To log off before then would leave your ship vulnerable for the cool down period.

Does this discussion actually have any effect ont he game? Just wait for it to come out lol.
That being said, just like most games out there, there should be a 20 second timer or whatever so you cant log out in combat to save yourself. Warp drive gives a unique opportunity to make a realistic exit without the ship just vanishing or something. since this is mainly a graphics thing, ships with cloaking devices might also be able to cloak out. This might cause some issues in PvP however, because players might assume that there is actually a cloaked ship around.

If your out of combat and not in imidate danger, you should be able to click a button that sets course for your chosen starbase, warp and log out. As for a timer i would say 10-20 seconds at most. I mean, what if your busy flying around the galaxy when something comes up and u gotta go. When u log back in, you should be at your chosen starbase. But to discourage it's exploitation, you should be logged out for about 20 mins b4 that reset to your starbase takes place. Otherwise you should be put in an empty sector in the middle of no where that's close to the place u left.

Repair
well i think like we have seen in the shows, some we can repair but only if
you got the supplies to do ita and skills. For hull repair or new nacelles u need a stardock
i really hope there is good ship damage textures.
Rearming
Like in other games or mmo's you need new arrows hehe so u go to a shop.
proberly here a tradestation. With ferengi hehe.
logging off
well in CoH you came back on the place u where when u left and i liked that. u got some seconds too run away before u could take on damage. In EVE u where cloaked or on a station.
So i thiink its the same in STO, no starting at some station, u just 'dissapear'for the time
a good place would be well warping hehe

Repairing: Maybe that would be like your health bar? Engineering slowly repairs your health, but any ship damage is more or less permanent. (So you'd have to go back to a starbase and repair your hull every once in a while.)
Rearming: Torpedoes and other weapons would have to be restocked, but I'd like an option to be able to make them if my skills are high enough and I have the materials
Logging off: I'd be happiest if you stayed where you logged off. I would hate to get all the way to some far off planet and then have to log off (or power goes off, or internet goes down, stuff happens.) Then when I log back on I'd be back to some space station light years away? That would suck. Just have us stay where we logged off, and let people learn not to do it in an enemy base.

Repairing: I would like to see ships repair during combat, but also certain repairs that can only be done at a shipyard or starbase. (ie destroyed warp neculle)
Rearming: If you have no torpedoes, you need to reload at a starbase or shipyard, or have another ship be willing to give you weapons.
Logging Out: Interms of logging in or out, I think if you logged out and then back in your ship should be docked at the nearest starbase and ready to go.

I agree that if our hulls are heavily damaged we should have to go to a stardock, but I think we should be able to do moderate hull repairs our self if we have(or are) a skilled enough engineer. I say this because voyager was able to repair its hull when it was outa reach of any federation stardocks. Maybe we could choose to land on a planet and do the repairs there if we have the required supplies. It should take longer than a stardock, but we should gain a good bit of engineering xp.

First some people seem to have it wrong on how it works in eve.
If you log out without a pvp aggression timer (been shot by or shot a player I believe warp disruption bubbles count) your ship sits in space for 30 seconds, and unless warp scrambled by another player or bubble warps 1 million km and vanishs until you log back on.
If the ship is warp scrambled during the 30 second period it stays in space for an aditional 2 (?) minutes before vanishing in this time a gate camp/pirate gang can kill any subcapital ship easily.
If you log out with an aggression timer (engaged another player in combat in the last 15 minutes) your ship sits in space for 30 seconds and if not warp scrambled it warps 1million km away and sits there for the rest of your timer during this time your ship can be probed out (1million km is a piece of cake for a ship to probe) a good prober can do this in under 50 seconds, if the ship is found it dies pretty much.
If the ship is warp scrambled after a log out but with an aggression timer it stays in space forever.
It's a fairly effective system.

Because the developers are trying to make this game accessible to a wide variety of players, I think the ability to log out whenever you want is pretty much guaranteed; I just hope that some system is in place so that players will know where they are when they log in, because if the exploration system is as vast as the developers say it will be then remembering exactly where you were and what you were doing might prove to be difficult!

Well if players can log out whenever they want it will definetly ruin pvp and pobably any aspect of the game that involves combat, hey look some NPC klingons ... ah crap ,im loosing .. >are you sure you want to log off<
YES YES YES!!! >clicks.Phew ... now to go get cofee and go on a different char. This applys to PVP aswell.
If you ment by whenever as in more like "where" then sorry for misunderstanding, should of being more precise.

Enetering warp has alway been a strategy in every Trek Game i've played. Taking to much damage? Jump to warp effect some repairs drop out of warp and catch you pursuer coming out of warp with a full blast all weapons. If you don't want your traget getting away then you disable their warp drive. I so hope the don't nerf the ability to have Trek style combat. Heck wasn't it "The Wrath of Kahn" where Kirk jumped into warp for a split second cuasing him to miss and givine him a Clean shot at his ship?

Actually, couldn't you simply manufacture more torpedoes. I mean you can create all the required materials with a replicator and I am sure there is a fab shop somewhere on the ship..........

The Solution is simple:
You log out in space?, your engines hit max warp for the starbase.. you cant log back in for 5 mins.
Your warp engines damaged? Youre a sitting duck and when you get destroyed you'll log in again at the starbase. if not your ship will warp if it repairs itself in AI sit mode. Your clanmates would have to protect your ship till you warped :)

I completely agree with all of this.
Torps or other projectile weapons should be consumable. You either have to return to a starbase, be able to make them yourself or even get a transfer from another player. Energy based weapons should on ships should be unlimited.
