The thread title says it all, is Cryptic going to hold back and not release it on Mac? I BEG you Cryptic make the game for Mac/PC just like World of Warcraft is, Mac users do not have many MMO's to play and STO would be a really great MMO. Can't wait to see more about it :)

No. Much as I would like it, there will be no Mac/Linux support at launch.
Edit: But you could always install Windows and dual boot, as long as you have an Intel Mac. :)

why does everyone compare what cryptic ismaking to WoW and asking for macs. Cryptic is making a game that will destroy WoW and you want them to lower thier standards and build it for macs too?? Dump that PoS you have in the garbage and buy yourself a real PC. The rest of this is from the other mac thread I may as well post it here and stop everyone from complaining now.
I own a Mac also and it pathetic at how lazy Cryptic is.... WoW can do it... WHY CANT YOU!?
If this game is not Launched as Mac ill Just keep playing WoW along with the rest of Mac Gamers. This just means blizzard gets all Mac users 15 dollars a month since no other company release MMO's for Mac except them.
lol GOOD, if your so stupid as to buy a mac to play games then you deserve to be limited. MAC is one of the biggest disasters in the IT world. 5 years ago the G machines were very good equipment, today PC's with DX10 and Nvidia GeForce drivers, along with the fact there is no software that is mac only anymore, makes mac's obsolete. Windows is back to backhanding mac the way it deserves to be.
And if you really wanna prove me wrong find 5 things a mac can do better than windows. You will no longer find any.
Graphics - as i mentioned Nvidia and Dx10 surpass anything mac
Programming - .net
web design - Expression web once you get past the new GUI it works and reads most code.
Music - adobe programs are all on windows, and there are tons of programs for editing music files
video - same as music
Don't wail on the guy for getting a mac, it is safer, the OS' are better, ect. i don't say this because i play mac, i say this because it is tru. i don't play mac i play MS.
Ok the big one.
Security - "mac has better security from virus's and spyware." Why because there are far fewer people who know how to program in the same language that the mac is built on than there is people who know how to code in windows (now c code). If 30 years ago MAC had become the world leader in computers it would be PC's that would be more secure because no one would know C code to program stuff able to affect windows.
So really the true answer is "no macs are not more secure than windows" but are less prone to attack.
So really if you wanna waste your money on a mac because you see a really funny commercial on TV or somebody tells you they are better than windows, go for it. The rest of us will sit back and wave as we watch you drown.

Just posted this in the other thread where you attempted to insult someone because they own a Mac:

Like i said in the other post. You are proving nothing by using a "gateway machine" you aren't showing me hardware, you arn't showing me ram speeds, you arn't showing me anything.
And really if your machine takes a min and 13 seconds to boot you really need to check your pc. My 8 year old P4 3.66 HT with 512 ram only takes 30 seconds.
OHH and booyah only when your right.

And like I said in the other thread:
The link provided as my source contains all that you ask. And the point is that you can get performance that is equal to or better than a much more expensive purpose built gaming rig cheaper.
Seriously, if it helps you flex your flaccid and ineffective e-peen to attack me, go right ahead, but please leave the guys like the OP alone. They might not be as thick-skinned, and you're giving them a good reason to doubt the maturity of those on these boards.
Edit: Oh and booyah! - twice.

Wow, all these 'Mac' threads have turned into one great big "mine is bigger than yours" ****ing match!
Look, everyone prefers one platform over the other. I use a Mac, I've always used a Mac and will always use a Mac. Don't go crapping all over someone just because what they use doesn't hold up to what you consider superior.
Oh, and Talamakara, calling other people's preference a "PoS" is a good way to start flame wars. It's immature and it wastes people's time when they come to these boards to have constructive discussions regarding STO.

It should be for mac maybe not in launch bud in later expansion. Mac users have as good PC as anynone else. I am against cross platform, PC consoles fights remember one think we ar all gamers or star trek fans we should stick toghether not fight.
Oh and i have windoze machine i satrted with win 3.11 when i was 8. Now i have good gaming rig using Win Vista ( yea you are reading vista i tried it and stick with it )

I happen to like Vista alot, Ive never had a serious problem with it. I did build my machine from the ground up to run vista and I am not trying to put 10 year old printer drivers or software on it tho, the problem most people seem to have with vista is either they dont have the hardware to run it or they're trying to put old software and drivers on it. And I admit Vista just hates old software/drivers.
As for putting it out on mac. Only if they can afford dev costs to swtich it to a unix core os and still recoup the money they spent so I think if they do a mac version it should be mac/linux. In the end osx is just another flavor of unix.

Since there are whole 2 threads about Macs in this forum i will quote myself...
I have a Mac. And I'm not going to play this game, unless it's going to be better than excellent. Because only really good game can make me sacrifice 30-50 GB's of my internal Hard Drive. Nay, i can play the game only in home (I possess only a notebook, if you didn't guessed it yet) by installing Windows on external Hard Drive... Or i can buy a new computer only for this game, i am rich and stupid enough to do this, ain't i? Yea... But i am not going to do this, because i am an adept of Cult of Mac... And you ain't getting my money just yet...
P.S. Please, make this game for Mac OS 10, mkay?
windows on a external harddrive? you got to be kidding... that would redefine the words "sloppy perfomance" lol

Ever heard of a Firewire 800? It's not faster than SATA of course, but it's enough...

Ever heard of a Firewire 800? It's not faster than SATA of course, but it's enough...
FireWire 400 can transfer data between devices at 100, 200, or 400 Mbit/s half-duplex data rates (the actual transfer rates are 98.304, 196.608, and 393.216 Mbit/s, i.e. 12.288, 24.576 and 49.152 megabytes per second respectively)[
FireWire 800 was introduced commercially by Apple in 2003. This newer 1394 specification (1394b) and corresponding products allow a transfer rate of 786.432 Mbit/s full-duplex via a new encoding scheme termed beta mode
SATA2 (ver 3.0) is 3gb/s (so is e-sata) and the new version supposedly out at the end of this year is suppose to be 6Gb/s.
just thought i'd throw that out there, though you might want to look into e-sata if it's possible especially if you wanna run and OS off an external drive.

SATA is used internally, though. The FireWire comment is about external drives.
EDIT - I stand corrected. I just found an instance of SATA used externally. Never seen it before now....

SATA can be used externally... But not in my MacBook :) And new SATA2 are better than current one, so i don't care about it. 800 mbit/sec is more than enough for running Windows and Star Trek... The point was not it :) The point was, i do not wish to do it, if game won't be superb...
