In next generation time travel (for all races) was just looming its head around the corner. The borg succesfully did it star fleet did it and I dont know about the klingons but they probably knew how or at least stole the technology. So I was wondering sometime in the future of the game do you think that time travel will be possible. I know its a big thing to do but could it be done.

I would expect to see some time travel quests in the game. As a matter of fact I am demanding it. Time travel has been a huge part of Star Trek history, they will have to do something with it.

I hope it isn't an element, no need. Leave it to the shows/books please. Yeah it would be 'kind of cool' to have to follow and enemy back in time who is trying to alter history, seeing older ships and so forth from TOS etc though I could really do without it.
i dont see it happen in STO.. timetravel would effect to many things, otherwise it would be worthless
The knew how to timetravel in TOS but it was very dangerous and the arrival date was uncertain. The practice was banned. I believe one of the DS9 episodes told us that computers were programmed to report to starfleet directly any breach of temporal procedure (one of those agents from the temporal protection agency said so I think)
Real time travel (that didn't land you face down in a Talaxian toilet 1000 light years and 500 years from your destination) was indeed just around the corner with the study of chronometric particles discovered during TNG and later mentioned in VOY.

I really hope they don't go to the well too many times with this one.
Time travel has been used way too much in ST already.
I do expect to see it, though... along with Mirror Universe stuff too.

Cryptic did verify that they were planing on putting some sort of time travel in the game, in that it would allow you to interact with legendary characters who are dead by the time the game begins.

It probably could be an instance. It could actually be part of a huge quest now that I think about it. Could do a slingshot maneuver or if they really want to have fun. Try the Guardian of Forever. Could send them anywhere and they'd have to go and fix something.
NOOOO! Time travel is never handled correctly and always too epic-ish.
Although I will say the best handled piece of time travel scf-fi brought to the screen was Yesterday's Enterprise... except perhaps for Guinan just having that feeling....

Yeah, I always thought that was somewhat suspect. Simply explaining it away as part of her mysterious species' abilities seemed a convenient way of avoiding having to explain a useful plot device.
As for the topic of this thread, i tend to feel that time-travel, as part of ST from way back, should be included but kept on a very short string. I'd love to experience something like they did in the DS9 Episode Trials and Tribble-ations.

Yeah, that's how I see it.
Because I don't know how the Devs could pull off time travel or entering the Mirror Universe without making a seperate server. Not exactly time traveling if you are still in contact with your fleet and traveling throughout the Galaxy without the thousands of other players around.

Just like WoW did for CoT (Caverns of Time) it would be cool to have a few missions where you go back in time and have to complete it to save federation history.

It could be a cool event, having the Federation battle the Klingons in Kirk's era in a war to gain superiority in 2409. It wouldn't have to be out and out combat, in fact very little of that (especially for Federation types), but completing objectives that for the Klingons will strengthen the Empire and for the Federation preserves the current timeline.

Time travel has always been used in scifi storytelling. The difference here is working it into the game. I think its doable as an instanced quest or something.
I hate time travel in stories. They never get it right :D

They implemented time travel into city of villains / city of heroes really well by allowing you to go back and completed earlier missions you may have bypassed the instance actually artificially lowers the level of your class to do these earlier missions.
also has a bit of a story arc about stuff and you have to stop them, same thing the instance lowers your level.
Time travel in STO might be fun because it can implement earlier era starships without fubaring everyhting up.
Ie muck around on a miranda or a constituion class or take part in the dominion war.
Much like the Q it allows you to really get away with murder without mucking up your core game.

It will be there at some point and so will the mirror universe.
IMO, it will be PVE solo/grp instances that won't change much to anything about the general public server timeline when completed(some xp/prestige maybe a bit of special toon/ship loots/crafting blueprints, not necessarily epics).
...Sounds fun.

I totally agree with you, There can be quite a few quests, but we shouldnt be willingly be able to go back in time unless there is a acheivment to accomplish
Did anyone watch the Vegas trailor?
Yes timetravel will be in the game. To what extent? We dont know.

If time travel makes it into the game I'd hope it would be for away missions or in ship encounters rather then taking the ship to a different time. Leave the ship vs ship craziness for Mirror Universe plots...

I think it would be a great idea as part of a mission.

I've never liked the overuse of time travel in scifi, but I wouldn't mind time-fixing missions here and there for kicks, especially if our characters' uniforms are changed to fit the era. I'm also in complete support of holodeck historical programs.

I wouldn't mind seeing time travel in STO, but done properly. I think I saw someone mention it as possible with an instance; I think that's a very good possibility/solution to how it could work. I do agree it could cause challenges both with time continuity in the game as well as the fact that you can still communicate with all the people in the future/past/alt universe.
One thought I had - at least for Dark Mirror universe - perhaps have it so you could only communicate (in-game) with other people who were in that universe at the time.
I would not be sad if this didn't make it in time for game launch though; it could easily be something added later and I wouldn't complain.

I am fine with it in an instance circumstance and done right. I also want to make sure that the time travel isn't so bad that it can cause catastrophic changes in the timeline. (I know we don't have the time to talk about timelines because we don't have the time so I will move on ) ;)

The thing is, I would have thought the feds would have developed a reliable time travel technology by the 25th century, remmember that temporal vortex in first contact. The Enterprise was able to recreate it to get back to the 24th century. Also there's the slingshot round the sun option, but that always seemed more of a shot in the dark.
