I have a feeling that when sto is launched it will have the largest majority of players on RP (roleplaying) servers ever. I was wondering how many people will be playing RP servers here. I know for one that I will have at least one charecter built on an RP server and play them on a regular basis.:)

I tend to RP when i feel so inclined, but most of the time i just play the game. So should there be RP servers i probably wont bother with them.

this is of course region dependant, so if my closest server is RP ill take it and put up with having to talk in universe all the time.

I'm pretty sure they are planning to have just one server. Reguarless, I plan to be RPing.

Probably not nearly as many as you suspect. RP is nice and on occassion it is fun. The reality of it is that after awhile people tend to just be themselves. I've seen it happen on many a RP server. Starts off as rp heaven and in a few weeks becomes just like any other server. Save the two in the shadows cybering their little hearts out.

My understanding is that Cryptic will try and get everyone on one server much like EVE is at the moment. If they do RP servers though I will be using them.

I discovered this strange thing called "RP" in WoW, and it naturally appealed to my creative side. Unfortunately, RP in WoW was less rewarding for me because I don't really dig fantasy, swords, magic and all that stuff. I prefer sci-fi, and the sci-fi I grew up on was Star Trek.

So, yeah, I'll be RPing. I don't know if the servers will be split at launch, or if they'll have RP servers if they do split them (they specifically exclude PvP servers with different rulesets in the official FAQ, but are strangely silent on the subject of RP servers).

If they are split (and labeled), you can expect me on an RP server. If they aren't, you can expect me to RP anyway on the one, giant server, seeking out fellow RPers and new RP fleets. And if they're split, and they're NOT divided with designated RP servers... well... I'll hope the server I start on has a good RP community, or that I can find a fleet on the forums that promises strong RP and start off on their server. RP in some MMO's can be argued for or against, but I want to run into Starfleet captains and Klingon warriors, not the incoherent babbling of leet speakers.

No need to make a separate servers. Rpers always find each other.

I figure there will be a healthy role-play community in this game. Like LOTRO, the base IP is conductive to that. Since they're saying (atm) 1 server for everyone, then that makes it a lot easier for role-players to congregate :D

I wonder if they'll do the same rules as you see on all lotro servers, like the Naming (http://turbine.fuzeqna.com/lotro.support/consumer/kbdetail.asp?kbid=1279) rules. I also see very few people (at least on the unoffical rp server) chat oocly in the /say channels.

I remember hearing somewhere (I belive the FAQs) that there wouldn't be any RP servers, just all "normal" servers, this would be identical to CoX. With that said I do hope the RP community is strong in STO... after all I don't see how a Trekie could play STO and not RP in some way or form... its the closest we'll get to living the life afterall haha.

Hell, I know people that roleplay Star Trek in real life, I think it's a given.

Yes, I *do* have a TNG command uniform in my closet... and no, I don't wear it. :D

I still have my TNG uniform from when I was 12 in my closet too. Tad bit tight now. :D

The general server will be fine for role players as most Trekkies are used to the RP crowd by now.

Heh, I have a TOS command tunic I picked up at the Star Trek Experience when they still sold those. Never did get around to wearing it for halloween, though. Did something else instead XD

Would I prfer there was an RP specific server... certainly, but it doesnt look like that will be the case.

But I fuly intend to roleply wherever I am, as that is my history and my personal preference.

How absolutely silly. What kinda nerd would buy, much less wear such a thing.

Umm then why do you have it? I mean I have a Clone trooper costume, it is not finished yet, but when it is I fully intend to wear it (yay for the 501st).

Lol... I tried to triple major in History, Political Science and Civil Engineering (had to drop CE :( ). I'm now working on a PhD. I created a whole thread about the Officer of the Deck position and another on on Modular ship customization... yeah Nerd is an understatement. I wear my nerd badge with pride.

Now where did you get that uniform I think I need one :p

Heh... about 9 years ago I finished a degree in Graphic Design and I *just* finished paying off the student loans, I'd really hate to have your bill. :)

I got my uniform in '93 or '94 I think, at a Convention in Connecticut. Was pretty cool, Walter Koenig was the guest speaker. Truly an awesome guy. :)

Touche! yeah loans are the ugly side of education.

Walter Koenig is awesome I need to go to some conventions though, I've never met any of them.

So far, I've got Walter Koenig, George Takei, Kate Mulgrew and Spice Williams-Crosby - who played the female Klingon Vixis in Star Trek V.

I've only personally spoken with Koenig and Takei though. Granted, it was quick, along the lines of "Hi, how are you..." but it was still cool. :)

As a roleplay myself, I prefer the idea of only one server, but regardless of how many servers there are I agree that Star Trek Online will probably have a higher than usual number of roleplayers.

<-- roleplayer.

I generally roleplay, even on a quote-unquote "non-RP" server. I'm currently playing Tabula Rasa, and there isn't a dedicated RP server... and the "unofficial" RP server has, well... neglible roleplay. I tend to stay in-character whether or not I'm grouping with other roleplayers.

I think there'll be a strong RP community in Star Trek *if* that community focuses on building itself up and not worrying about what they *don't* have or what the non-RPers are doing.

I never roleplayed in any game but i want to roleplay in STO or at least try it. I hope it will have as much ropleplayer friendly community as MMO can have.

It has several servers. None are oficially designated as a RP server, and to be honest, there isn't much RPing in the game. I am a avid RPer, but I never felt comfortable in that game. It is a PVE heavy game, mostly.

I'm not much a fan of RP servers, and i RP quite frequently. But i also like to PvP, stand around and chat casually, and PVE as well. I dont want to go and have to make a seperate character for seperate activities, i like to just walk away and do something else on the same character. Starsider was nice on SWG. It was considered the "Balanced" server. It had the best Space PVP, it had great ground PVE groups and PVP guilds, and it had plenty of RP guilds and cities as well. You could do everything on the server. You could PVP for a couple hours, then run off and do some Space PVP.

Making a specific server for RP only limits things, and in the end it HURTS RP, because the RP'ers who dont RP 24/7 wont go to the RP server, so you'll actually be cutting yourself off from a large portion of the RP base.

Over the years I've RPed on both RP Servers and non-RP Server. Anymore it doesn't really matter much to me. Its easy to find the RPers and once found we tend to interact pretty regularly. ST:O has a ton of potential for RPers and I'm really looking forward to getting to know others who also like to RP.
