*sings* cash rules everything around me, cream, get the money, dollar dollar bill yaaa....
no for real..
how do you think will they do the financial aspects?
i never played any game of cryptic, so i dunno how they will possibly handle this.
will it be probably like, regular price for the game, and low monthly fee, but expansionpacks?
or regular price for the game, and high monthly fees, but content updates and no expansionpacks at all?
or like regular price for the game, and no monthly fees, but a lot of expansionpacks?
i think it depends on the fact, how they will handle the online part. if its centred around a serverfarm of their own, or if its handled on everyones comp like a mix of guildwars and regular multiplayertitles.. but since it will probably be a crossplattform title with the 360 on the side, there cant be such a big possibility for a monthly fee, cause that would completly kill the consoleplayerbase with the regular payment for the 360s gold account plus a mmo monthly fee. and thats the reason why this topic is floating around in my mind.

Actually, the two 360 MMO's on the market currently FFXI(Square Enix) and PSU(Sega), can be played with a Xbox Silver Account, which is free. So if any future MMO were to make it to 360, they too would most likely share the only needing to have a silver account requirement. Therefore, the "I pay for xbox live" argument is null and void.
Also, I forsee a normal priced MMO game, normal monthly fee, normal priced expansions. Just the norm, I tend to find F2P MMO's boring and undermoderated/updated etc.

hey good question. I own the 360 myself. I guess they could do the same as uhhm, final fantasy and charge per char slot, that seems fair, Ill pay ten bucks for 5 toons np and you left out the internet bill btw :)
i dont think the "i pay for xboxlive" argument is null and void (how you called it). cause there might be a lot of xbox players who actually got a gold account for other games, so it doesnt matter if theres just a need of a silver account, cause they are already paying and got to pay even more with an mmo. same subject, pov of the other side of the medal.
PS: @ aguila you're right, but i think, anyone interested in online play got to have a netconnection, so.. ah, well.. :D

Ok, I really am at a cross roads with people like you on the xbox live situation. Honestly, gaming has and never will be a poor mans hobby. I have a 360(GT: Jerrythegreat) I have a yearly subscription to xbox live, I also pay for FFXI and have for a long long time. The xbox live service, and FFXI are two different services, maybe this is what people don't understand.
Your gold account allows you to play on Xbox Live hardware, download extra content from marketplace etc etc, we know what the gold account does, but FFXI for instance, has nothing to do with xbox liver per se, when you pop FFXI into your disc tray, you don't connect to xbox lives pipeline of matchmaking, you connect to PlayOnline, Sqaure Enix's hardware.
Microsoft doesn't pay Square Enix any money monthly for you playing on there servers, so SE is losing money. Most MMO companies rely on the monthly subscription costs to 1. make up the money lost during development, and 2. finance future endeavors in balancing, new content, server mait. etc etc.
If your defense of, Xbox live members shouldn't have to pay, is then don't pay for your subscription of xbox live. You don't need to. You choose to so that you can do everything that a gold subscription allows you to. Get over it. If a ported PC MMO comes to Xbox, or PSN for that matter, and it has a monthly subscription, the consoles versions will also have a monthly subscription cost.
Microsoft won't offer any financial support to said companies to aid in the fee's there losing by playing on its console, so boohoo, is all I can think. I hear a few 360 cry the same argument, and its silly to say the least. If you don't want to pay for gold, then Don't, you don't have to.

That's referring to GFW Live, which isn't what he was referring to (Xbox Live). Personally anyone that was previously paying for GFW Live was getting cheated, that system was terrible.
i got to say, i never played any mmo on the 360, so maybe thats why. i didnt even know it logs into another online service then the microsofts one. but now im getting ya.
so what remains is the other 2 models, content patches vs. expansionpacks, and monthly fee vs. paying for slots.
i got to say, i am more for the expansionpacks but low to none fee and that doesnt come from "i dont want to pay yadayada", but this could have a huge impact on sales and marketing. so that way, they dont have "just the big licence" for advertising, but a "hey you dont have to pay for playing, but we will comeup with expansions for retail" on their side, which will probably appeal to more ppl over here in europe. alot of ppl were bugged by the financial models of MMO's with these gametimecards and payment by direct debit, cause a credit card is not a common thing over here. so i would really think twice about this thing, cause theres a huge trekkie-base here.
PS: the real reason i came up with this thoughts is simply... ima ex-MxO player (and SOE really killed the game with their "work") and i saw flagship die with their financial model and boring levellayouts. and this title here would be the first i really love to buy and play, after yrs (only other MMO im interested in is in the works by bioware and lucas arts, but thats faaaaar away). so i dont want to see it dieing cause of things like this (we all know how rare good star trek games are).

Expanding on this, Multiple characters on the same account, paying the same base fee for multiple characters = stupid ploy for more money.
