I want to play as the Romulans

And I also like the idea of commanding a Vulcan ship for example. But i don't know how this fits into lore and if Vulcans still produce own ships.

Alot of people want Romulans as playable, but they will probably be relentless agressors at launch ....

I kind of like the Star Trek vision of a very calculative and insidious adversary :D

and afterall, who wouldn't want to command a D'deridex-class Warbird, it's a monster.

It makes sense, of course, Romulans are easily the third most well-known independent faction of Star Trek, just behind Klingons and just ahead of the Borg. Their inclusion can't be far off.

Personally, I'm with you. While my main dream is to be a Starfleet captain, I would love to have a Romulan alt much more than even a Klingon one. Don't get me wrong, I love Klingons, but I much prefer the subtlety, dignity, and insidious nature of the Romulans. Sneaking around, spy vs. spy, never knowing who to trust and always trying to find the upper hand, now that sounds like fun.

i dont think we will see the remans once again.. i mean.. this game is set ~30yrs after the "nemesis".. do you think the romulans will thrust a reman once more? :D

What i was thinking is that remans would be an evil race. Maybie forming an aliance with another evil race. of corse this would all be relieced in an expansion pack as the original game would take far to long if they included to much.:)

As Mezlabor said, CoH/V didn't have any paid expansions but did have massive updates about three times a year in free issues that introduced lots of new content. I hope STO is the same and I hope playable Romulans are in the first one.

I'm thinking the Orions would be next. With the initial release the elements of conflict and exploration will be well represented. The third big factor mentioned by Jack E. was trade. Of course that could be the Ferengi as well... but the Orions have the edge with their womenfolk :D

I love the Romulans, and I have no idea why. I suppose their awesome ship designs (D'deridex and Valore) along with their cunning and intelligence. I also hope that they'll be allied with the Federation, though probably not unless the Klingons get a PvP ally also.

if romulans could be playable as a starting race for players, i think that cloaking devices shouldnt be equipped on ships until you reach a certain ship:)

I would REALLY like to play the Romulans. :D Of course, I'd have my first character Federation but my next is going to be Romulan all the way. ;) (if you can have more than 1 character, of course)

Well, there seems to be a lot of support so I think Cryptic will definitely put this feature in at some point, although I would say it's unlikely for launch now they have commited to either Federation or Klingon. You may be able to change their minds though lol.

Personally, I like to create lots of alts so I will create a new one for each extra race or faction that becomes available. If you give us more races, give us more alts :D

there will most deffinetly be more races added but i wouldnt blame cryptic if they decided to bring new races out in expansion packs like those for WoW because i mean the dev team have familys they need to get paid a wage and cryptic need lots of money to keep this game afloat and working without a problem so id expect either pay monthly or lots of expansions sold at about £20-£30 each and in my opinon i would pay

I think there are a number of players who would really like the chance to play the Romulans, and as others have pointed out they have already been mentioned as a possibility for a future expansion. That being said, hopefully there is some incentive or something like that to entice people to play the Romulans in order to ensure that they are not completely outnumbered in Player vs. Player (though I suspect this might happen between the Federation and Klingon affiliations anyway).

I'm sure they do. Vulcan ships are shown and mentioned in TNG.

Personally, I think that the Romulans are about the coolest Trek species. Like Vulcans physically, but MEANer!

You can count on me being one of the first few Romulan Commanders! >=D
