Hey I am sorry if the things I ask here have been discussed in other topics, the forum is to much to vast to search through lol, feel free to link me to other topics if any of my questions have been discussed before.
1. Player combat - Will the player combat (not ship combat) be more like the traditional mmo with a point and click interface or will it be more alone the lines of a fps like combat system where you have full control over aiming etc. (ie closer to Mass Effect or World of Warcraft)
2. I noticed in the Trailer Klingon's boarding a Federation vessel attacking the bridge crew. Would it be possible to take control of a ship or destroy a ship in this manner?
3. Holodeck - I have heard that you might be able to visit the holodeck on your own ship. Would you have a limited number of programs that you will be able to run?, What sort of programs would you have to choose from?, Would it be possible to create your own program?

Welcome! You may want to check out the official FAQ located here: http://www.startrekonline.com/faq
And the Unofficial FAQ located here: http://sto-zone.com/unofficialFAQ.html
Answers:
1 - Naval combat will be slower and more tactical based. Ground combat will be faster, more like an FPS. That's all the info we have so far.
2 - Boarding other ships will be a social aspect, not a gameplay element. You will not be able to forcibly take another player's ship from them.
3 - We don't have any concrete information on the holodeck just yet.
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Hey there,
Yup the search can find many many things sometimes.
Anyway I'll try my best with what info I have -
1) We know there will be third person real time action combat
Info taken from GameSpot interview -
GS: How are you planning to implement combat on the surface using away-teams? Will it be third-person, real-time combat like we've seen in Cryptic's other upcoming project, Champions Online?
CZ: Yes--third-person, real-time, action combat.
2) I really do hope we can board and attack and destroy a ship from the inside, I don't think there's any info on this yet ?
3) Alot of questions about the holodeck, but still no real answers :(

I remember that being said in the webcast but that doesn’t explain the trailer showing Klingons shooting Federations people on a Federation bridge?

I beleive he means it will be a NPC/Quest aspect of the game, no pvp will happen aboard your ship or another players ship.

Ah ok, altho I think it is a cool aspect if you could board ships and have fps fights.

i'm pretty sure what was ment by" social element not gameplay" was for Players/PvP on your/their bridges. now NPC's on the other hand i belive will be like you saw on the trailer, although i dont think it will be free reign, i belive right now it'll only be allowed on specific quest/mission ships.

Welcome to the forum, Tanith! I think the other posters have done a pretty good job of answering your questions, but I thought I would point out that you raised an interesting idea in your last question - that is, that players might be able to create their own holodeck programs. Obviously, player-generated content has already been discussed but this would certainly be an interesting way to implement such a feature!
