Hey everyone!

As you all know, Cryptic Studios was at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last week. I've put together a re-cap of our daily experiences including a photo gallery from the convention:

Cryptic Studios was at The Official Star Trek Las Vegas Convention held August 6 – 10 this year and it was an amazing experience. We were there to promote Star Trek Online and give Trek fans in attendance a chance to see the game that would allow them to be a part of the Star Trek universe. Over the course of the convention, we met many great people who were definitely passionate about Star Trek and gaming.

Looks like Razor is a real camera bug. He's grinning ear-to-ear while being in 7 out of 10 photos. :)
Looked fun though. I would have liked to meet mr. Nimoy.

I wish I could have been there just to grab a shirt, but at least they didn't hand out beta invites to the attendees. That would have been like a dagger through my heart.

A very awesome time indeed.

I'm really glad I was able to see Quarks and the Experience before it closed.

I wonder how many shirts were leftover out of the 7,000 Nate had to hand out.

I can;t believe I missed the opportunity to meet Mr. Nimoy. Arg.

Hey looks like you guys had a great time...was that a replica captain's chair in the dealers room or was that the real thing flown out by paramount for the convention?

The convention was awesome this year! Definitely better than last year :D

Naturally, the unveiling of STO was a highpoint for me (I even skipped a photo op with Zachary Quinto to be there during the announcement :D). My girlfriend and I got our shirts too! The other day I was wearing mine while we were out shopping and someone walked up to me asking about the game. I told them as much as I could remember off the top of my head from the convention, but ultimately I wound up giving them the url for this site.

I can't wait for the convention next year...I hope Patrick Stewart can make it D:

Razor! I am still sad that I missed seeing you guys in person at the Convention, but I have to admit that the Star Trek Experience was INCREDIBLE!! I got in there on August 12, and It felt like home! The whole place was so well designed and built, and the crew/staff there were awesome!! It was so perfect that I even asked my girlfriend to marry me, while we were standing on the bridge of the Enterprise! I cant believe its closing, but the memories I have from it will last with me forever!!

Looks like you really enjoyed your trip to LV. Glad you had fun! :)

It was so great to be at this year's convention and meet everyone that I did; the fans, Cryptic, the stars...so much fun.

But let's put credit where credit is due. Nate from Cryptic was there starting on Tuesday (day 0 of the convention) handing out T-shirts and advertising. Nate did this Wednesday through Friday afternoon before the rest of the Cryptic crew showed up; it was a good thing too! Friday through Sunday were crazy busy!

Nate, Razor, and Jack; great meeting all of you!

I went for the first time yesterday to the Star trek Exp in vegas it was amazing. The borg side had the EMH programe and Janeway and the borg queen. You get to be 5 feet away from a borg which is amazing in it's self. Then the klingon side oh man this is the true highlight of the exp. First you get transported which is by all accounts freaking amazing your in one room one sec 3 secs later your on a telportation pad soooo gooodd. The you get to be on the bridge of the enterprise GEEK GAZAM. The your taken into a turbo lift that malfuctions it's so COOL. Then you take a shuttle into a time tunnle while be chased by klingons and you get to fight them off with the enterprise and a shuttle that Gordi is piloting. It was freaking amazing and now that it's closeing down i will never get to do it again : (. I got pics hopefull we will have them devolped soon so i can post them.

Razor has that "OMFG What have I gotten myself into?" look in every picture with fans. Welcome to Star Trek fandom razor! Hope you survive. :p. Too bad about Star Trek: The Experiance. If their tickets were not $50 each, say they were $15. I'd go. They would have tons more visitors. $50 for 2 attractions is insane. A day at Disneyland is about $60. Which would you choose? Just was not competative. Especially with all there other random things you can do in Las Vegas. (Disneyland of course NOT being one of them.)

was that a replica captain's chair in the dealers room or was that the real thing flown out by paramount for the convention? It was a replica, but the Star Trek Experience is a museum of sorts, with a lot of original props and materials from the show. I don't know what if any original materials went into the bridge construction, but because the attraction has very different logistics than a soundstage, it couldn't possibly have had the same construction plans and hold up to the tens of thousands of tourists sitting in the chairs and touching the panels that it has over the past 10 years.

Excruciating detail went into the recreation, often using still images from video or film where possible, and as well having inside knowledge from some set designer professionals. Many conduits for example were given Gene Roddenberry's favorite acronym "GNDN" (plus a number) which stands for "Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing.":D

The experience of being transported gives you a rush of air that seems to blow up from the floor itself (which has no holes in it) which is amazing in itself until you learn the secret of the effect from the behind-the-scenes tour, which also shows you the mechanism of the motion simulator and many other technical marvels all made especially for the Star Trek Experience. The month of 9 followed by a starting digit of 1 seems to be setting a pattern of being a not-so-fun date combination on my calendar these days. The attraction closes at the end of 9/1/2008.:(
