I am curious to know how the devs and writing staff will deal with some of the more questionable soft canon that is found after the end of real canon in 2379.
For example, real canon establishes Janeway as an Admiral in 2379. However, in the books that follow, Janeway is killed in 2380. Now considering that Janeway was young in 2379, it would be plausible she could be still in Starfleet in 2409. Would the developers go with the real canon here, and possibly pick up the Janeway character, or, would Janeway be dead as of 2380 like the books state?
Extremely curious on this and all similar soft canon issues.

I think the game will definitely respect everything that has been established in the television shows and movies, but beyond that I think Cryptic Studios will pick and choose specific elements from other sources that will benefit the game the most instead of utilizing every aspect of "soft canon".

I think they have already indicated as much in interviews.

I think the Novels are just good raw material for story ideas but Jack made a strong emphasis on canon first.

I would also agree with Cannon comes first followed by non-cannon as long as it doe not contradict the cannon material.
If it was me, I would keep her dead. It gives the Borg back their don’t mess us, evil and dark felling back after her coasting by every Borg ship.
I would also consider the temporal cold as non-canon, hated those episodes.

Would be great to see Excalibur/New Frontier in there. It does a great job as a series keeping distant from the affairs of main characters and could create an excellent array of quests and mission areas. Some of the books are just down right ridiculous. Anything by William Shatner is just a Kirk fest-in-the-24th-century-with-picard-as-his-sidekick.

I think Cryptic will pick and choose the stories that they think will work best in an MMO and use them. There will most likely be some stories created specifically for STO that will contradict a Trek novel, but that's okay with me as long as the story in STO is better than the story from the novel they ignored.

You have to remember that the Devs are fans too, and true to human nature, they're probably going to propagate the stories nearest and dearest to their hearts.
