Will there be a lot of opportunity for people to be grinding through the game by themselves or will a lot of the game take place only when grouped with other real players. Some players prefer to go through parts or much of the game solo and then only later get into the grouping aspects of the games.

I don't think Cryptic would force anyone's playstyle on them so most likely will be able too solo or group as long or whenever you want..

I read somewhere that certain parts of the game will require "grouping" but playing solo will still be viable in certain stuff.

I'd agree with that, and the beauty of this game is that "leveling or grinding" won't be a chore like WOW because i'm and many others who will play this game LOVE all things Star trek :P

Since we likely won't have real PC crews, I'm going to treat this game like a single-player game. I'm going to buy a ship and fly to the most remote end of the universe and play as I want to play.

I'm personally hoping for no "grind" at all.

As to grouping versus solo play, I'd prefer if we could solo or group when we feel like it, and not dictated by the difficulty of a mission. Meaning, scaleable difficulty in specific missions.

If I go solo, then there's "X" objective, but if I go in a group, then there are "Y" number of additional ships/NPC guarding/attacking/defending (whatever, or instead of increasing numbers, they might be in better position, or work together better, etc.) based on the number of group members.

In other words, any mission ingame (barring specific character storylines) should be for solo *or* group play.

Forcing group play on anyone is a quick way to kill this game.

And in being fair grouping should not give better rewards are advantage's that the individual can keep after departing . Because then i would feel to be my best i would have to group too acquire that. I think that is why there is so much fear in pc crews is the feeling that in some way they will be forced into doing that to be there best.. I think the fear come's from all the other games since the ones like that you have to group to be the best... i think?

I agree. Generally speaking, MMOs classically design missions to be either solo or group, where the group missions are considered "elite" missions, which pay out better loot as an incentive toward grouping itself.

I personally prefer to have the choice, sometimes I feel like grouping, sometimes I don't, and don't feel that I should be penalized for doing so.

From the information revealed about the game so far, it seems as if Star Trek Online will accommodate players who like to solo and those who prefer to be in groups.
