I read on Wikipedia which i understand can be written by anyone but it stated this.
Starship assignments and missions would have been one of the key components of this game. Players would have congregated and socialized aboard large starship "hubs" such as the Galaxy-class, and use them as jumping-off points to go on missions aboard their smaller personal starships.
That could explain early game content.
So you could get assigned to a Galaxy class Starship/station and work on early assignments such as investigate "blah blah" in the "blah blah" and you would take your to be first officer or some such in a shuttle or small craft and go on. Say until you are skilled enough to captain your own smaller to medium sized ship.
What are your thoughts.
P.S. i realise that could be related to the first incarnation of STO.
