Hi,
I am sure that someone has probably all ready asked this somewheres but i am unable to find anything on it. I am wondering what the chances of this game showing up on the PS3 would be. i think it is going to be an amazing game for the PC Platform but it would also be nice to see it launch on the PS3 or even the xbox 360. The other thing is if it does launch is it going to be different universes for each platform or would it be the same universe just different access points ? Thanks for listening and i applogise if i seem like i am asking something that has been asked a hundred times by now. Any responses from anyone would be appricated and i cannot wait until crypitc stuidos releases more about this game ! Have a good one :)

It's generally assumed by the community that there is a greater chance of it coming out for the 360 than the PS3, mainly because STO is based on the Champions Online engine & that game has been confirmed as a PC & 360 game.
It has also been stated by the Devs that they would like to see both console and PC people on the same server/playspace and the tech does not stop them from doing so, they however cannot confirm this so early in development.

Consoles is a step backwards, why would you want the game on a console if it's already on the PC?

Ever cracked open a console recently? It is a PC, the only downside is the upgradability of a console.
It is most likley we will see it on the Xbox 360 as they did say they are using the same Engine as Champions Online and that is slated for an Xbox release. However I do not believe they have ruled out a PS3 either at this point, somehow I think it will take more effort.

Hey there little fella.......... you may not know this but today's consoles are just as powerful as PCs.
In the case of the PS3 it is more powerful than a lot of peoples PCs.
Also the cell processor is will it is just an amazing advancement.

i would prefer to buy it on the ps3 than the pc.
plus with the psp there is the added functionality, for example remote play, or even a smaller psp version of the game or even a sub game. i mentioned before on another post that a ship creator would be fun to have on the psp, and from there you could load it via wifi to your game or via the ps3.
the ps3 can have keyboard+mouse control, the game can be updated easily, it could be distributed by the PSN (a system which has experience of mmo's (warhawk), large downloadable games). and now with development costs much lower than they were...if star trek is heading to consoles the ps3 must be considered.

Yeah. Hands down a milestone.
Now if only a developer could do for a MMO what Stanford (folding @ home), other supercomputing centers, the medical and military have done with the CELL.

I don't see how using a system such as a PS3 or the xbox 360 would be a step backwards. I think that placing this game on the PS3 platform would give it the chance to explode into the MMORPG scene becuase of the PSN and the fact that people might be more willing to play the game on thier PS3 or xbox versus on a PC. i know myself that i perfer the feel of gaming on a consol where i have a blue tooth keyboard and my controller vs a keyboard and mouse plus i know the game is going to work on my console and i will not have to go out and buy all the latest video game technology to get it to work on my computer. I think that the PS3 or xbox 360 would be amazing platforms to launch it on along side the PC. although admitdly it would be harder to code for the PS3 but with 50GB of storage per disk and growing imagine the amount of texture files that could be used to produce amazing scenary ( more so in common areas ie: star fleet adademy or holodeck etc ) it would make things look amazing possibly even true HD for the console systems. who know we will just have to wait and see but if i came out on the PS3 there would be no way i couldn't get this game. :)

ports to consoles usually suck even on newer consoles. I'd rather they not put effort into catering to console development and focuse on the core user base of the world, pc's and or macs

Do explain ? do you have examples and also how do you get around the fact that PC & Xbox development can be done in the same IDE with similar libraies ? i doubt that if STO hit game consols that the PC would stay the base platform or "core user" as you put it for long.

For those interested the Game Development IDE that i was talking about is called XNA Studios an attachment to Microsoft Visual C#.
Here is a link to their website for all of those interested:

One question that I had with regards to this is if it were released on multiple platforms could I log into the same account from two different platforms.
I may be an outlier but I game on both my PS3 and my computer regularly. If I could game on my HDTV when I'm home alone and on my PC when the TV is in use then I'd see that as a great feature. I'd even be willing to buy it on two consoles to enable this.
Maybe this is dumb, but the thought of exploring the galaxy on my PS3 is very enticing.

I agree.
It's been kind of a joke to turn your living room into a bridge...but this would be a great way to start.
If there is not a CELL in a pc by the time STO comes out, it is a fantastic option.
The PS3 also allows the developer to add in keyboard, mouse or other input devices.
$800.00 vs. a $4,000 gaming rig is mighty enticing.

Not that I would still not pursue seeing STO on the best PC hardware.
