Cryptic,
Great idea thinking to use transwarp corridors to expedite travel between solar systems. I have one cautionary note, however: Because warp travel is still rather fast, would it not also be possible to allow deep space travel at say.... warp 9.95? This would be great for undetected military incursions into the neutral zone, and things like that.

TW will probably used for jumping around quadrants, while Warp/Impulse has been traditionally used to travel between systems and planets accordingly.

I think this idea is more for player ships and fleets to get from one place to another quickly… rather than a tactical maneuver in combat.

I imagine them much like the jump gates from EvE, with the exception that we probably have the ability to travel anywhere by warp if we wish.

I think that we'll find that for combat, we'll drop down to sublight. They did say that combat would resemble Wrath of Khan, and Wolf 359. Sublight speed would allow for the slower more tactical approach that Jack and Craig mentioned in their interviews.
It wiould follow then that Warp speed will be used for inter-quadrant travel and transwarp for travel between quadrants.
Although tactically, I can see the advantage to a short low warp jump, but it would take you all the way across a system in matter of seconds.

Picard manuver. Quick warp hop so that you appear to be two places at once, and fire at will! =D
I like the idea of jump points. Sorta like flight points in WoW. If implemented correctly it would be pretty sweet.

According to memory-alpha it takes around 24 minutes for 1 ly at warp 9,9 ... to go anywhere by conventional warp will be quite painful if u ask me. :(

Except your Griffin doesn't die in the vacuum of space...

Yeah no one would play the game if it took days to get there. Even a die-hard fan like me would fall off the horse eventually. I agrre with posters above that Hyperspace gates and wormholes will be used as it was stated in the faq and in the vegas presentation as a way of linking distance parts of the galaxy. I think we'll still have to warp around to a lot of systems.
How else would we explore new areas and regions? There wouldn't already be Hyper gates to those points? Occasionally we might find a wormhole here and there but I imagine most of the exploring will just be setting a course to an unnamed star on the map and hitting the warp button.

I was thinking something like that, although if the Borg Transwarp gates from the end of Voyager are to be any indication they'd act more like very large Stargates than EVE Jumpgates, so you can travel to any transwarp gate within Faction-controlled space.
Alternately Cryptic could go with the transwarp gates from Star Trek: Armada where the Borg needed a dedicated entrance gate, but it could create an opening anywhere it pleased.
Someone proposed a "offline warp travel" system, where you could set a course for a starbase or solar system and say "engage, #1 you have the bridge", then go get some popcorn or something.

I only hope that we have plenty of space to travel in, I for one do not want to be able to get from one end of the quadrant to the other in less than 10 seconds. I would hope that space in game is big enough that it could take 15+ minutes, or even hours to get from one end to the other. I would also hope, that it would even be possible to reach the other quadrants without the use of Trans Warp Corridors.
