Ok so not the most exciting subject but you folks think of everything else I just had to come up with something!
How will inventories work you think?
Will it be like Eve Online with a canister in space?
Will it be on your ship perhaps? A Locker maybe? The Cargo Bay?
Perhaps it will be like many other games and you carry everything with you at all times? I know impossible to know...

I would assume you would have to scan the remnants of destroyed objects/ships and from there you would be able to tell what was salvageable and tractor beam or transport it in depending on the size.

id say lockers and maybe some cargo space for personal use in the cargo bay for long term storage and so on while away team members should have bags where they can keep a kit they have selected from their storage locker, pistol type phasers should be in holsters and rifle type phasers (if carried at all) slung over shoulders. engineers scientist and doctors should also have kit bags specific to their job (medical kit/tool kit etc) that allow then to carry specialist kit. so personal inventory would consist of a kit bag and backpack with holster "spaces" for weapons and long term storage would be a locker or storage space in a cargo bay.

Well, since everyone is going to have their own ship right from the start, the "cargo bay" theory sounds plausible to me. The smaller the ship... the smaller the bay, the larger the ship... you get the idea. Perhaps a warehouse at your home base, starbase, outpost or whatever structure you'd call home when not in space.

yes i think the benefit to gameplay is that you have to decide "what do i want to take on my ship this time" then "what do i want to take on the away mission"

Easy bud.
Your ship has a cargo hold and you personally store guns and small equipment in personal pattern buffers like in Elite Force.

i just thought limiting what you carry would make you think about things rather than thinking "it's ok i can take it all" but whatever works best all round as much as i like the decision making element id rather everyone or at least most people were happy with it especially as it's such a small part of the game.
