When us Trek fan were promissed we had Legacy it looked like WOW when it came out it was unplayable without controler. I'm a disabled person so yes if 60% of people said it including me its defently true

Legacy was underfunded and on a short time table. I don't think they're going to do that here.

he was referring to Bethesda, the dev of ST Legacy. OP wishes that beta is extensive so that the control scheme can be fleshed out, customizable and accessible to disabled individuals. Also I believe he would like the game to just be more cared for and overall presented better than Legacy was.

Well seeing from the presentation, it seems that the Forum people will get first acces, specially the ones whove been here since the start. But its a bit early, the release of the game is within now and 3 years anyway :p

I'm not sure theyll do a open beta, probably will pick people that they think is 'worthy'.

When/if a Public Beta happens, I'm certain there will be plenty of people worthy. Hopefully there's enough time for all considerations.
The game & IP is in good hands.

I'm sure there will be an option to sign up once they announce the open beta date. If there's any Star Trek products that have a release date around beta, it might include a ticket allowing beta access. I remember Crackdown did that with Halo 3.

I totally agree... This game will either succeed huge or fail tremendously. God, I sure hope that it is not the latter.
Personally, I can't wait to finally see what the Moon is supposed to look like with a colony on it... or Mars for that matter. All of you are in a rush out of this solar system.

I agree swift with everything you said.
As for being in the Beta.... i wouldn't sell my first born to be in it, but I'd offer them my wife... well, if I had one... you know maybe thats why I can't find one haha :p lol
Just kidding. Just kidding. If any of you are in the Beta though remember that the very fate of Trek might be in your hands. Give Cryptic the best feedback you can. HELP THEM to make this the BEST Trek game EVER!
(Yes I know the beta is probably two years out- oh god what am I going to do from 2 WHOLE YEARS?!?!?! I hadn't thought of this.... someone get me the Think-tank!)

The problem is the following:
Do we make this game for the star trek dork (myself included)?
or:
Do we make this game for the average MMO fan and try to make more money?
The good thing is that ST has a massive following
The bad thing is that this is still a business decision and profit (have they all become ferengi?) is a must

I'm guessing that this game will be a little like start trek starfleet command 3 then, but a milion times better, and that is you PC, you've twive the Ram cpacity as my new one will have, my new one will 3.0GHz prossessing capacity, 2Gb RAM, 500GB hard drive, dedicated graphics card with pixel shading, plus hardware transformation and lightning technology init, mate that is the best tooting pc in the world, and it's full customizable.

I agree with the OP, the controls for this game will be a necessity for space combat, and we don't want what happened to Legacy to happen again...that game had promise.

Maybe they can do a little bit of both, like World of Warcraft. They managed to balance the link between average MMO customer, and diehard Warcraft fans. Now, it's the top MMO on the market(mainly because of Warcraft's following, but original MMOs have done great too[namely, CIty of Heroes/Villains, EvE Online, and Guild Wars]).
Oh ****** hell, double post...

I realize that we are early in game design, but please don't let this game become another Star Trek Legacy.
When us Trek fan were promissed we had Legacy it looked like WOW when it came out it was unplayable without controler. I'm a disabled person so yes if 60% of people said it including me its defently true
When Legacy was released it looked great, but it was not playable unless you owned/used a game contorller. I am physicaly challanged so I was one of many people who couldn't play.
So maybe trhow at us many betas like a ton load how unstable they can be imsure we will bare please restet our stats each new beta
Please plan a large Beta program (as many Beta releases as is humany possable). Also if you could please re-set the player stats for each Beta release.
Hope, I'm at least close! :)

While I certainly would LOVE to be involved with the beta, I'm not going to go too far out of my way to make sure I'm picked for it. Our respective levels of fandom and desire to see this game come to fruition, or the number of times we post on these forums, should not have any impact on our being chosen; our dedication to pounding on this game until it breaks, reporting the problems, and helping in its development should be the determining factor. When they begin asking for potential beta testers, I'll submit whatever information they require, and hope for the best.
I also agree that there should be regular resets of stats as major updates come in; after all, this would be beta, not full play, and I don't think it'd be fair for whatever levels we gain in beta to carry over. Maybe they could give away chances to keep your stats and characters from beta closer to launch.
Just my two credits.
lets make it enjoyable for both not just st fan but lean more twoward us fan :P
i would like to see extensive tests in playability
also reseting stats would give us a possibility to help us fix bugs too

Here's an interesting suggestion for the beta:
It's clear Cryptic already has a working game, and we diehard fans are already chomping at the bit, waiting to get this game in our greasy hands. The best way to placate us, and to get the best game possible, is to, as the OP suggested, release multiple versions of a beta over the course of the dev cycle. This will let Cryptic test their server capacity, and get valuable feedback from the folks who will actually be playing the game. I realize Cryptic is VERY excited about this game, and I have no doubt this MMO is in very capable hands, but if ultimately the player community doesn't find this game enjoyable Cryptic will find many people opting to not renew their subscriptions. So if they release the beta early, they'll be able to properly correct the problems in the game before it ever hits a large market.

I am hoping Cryptic has a very lengthy beta. Take your time devs to work out all the bugs and really put a nice polish on this game. I for one would love to be in the beta but more importantly I think I would enjoy a well polished Star Trek universe to play in when it hits retail. Here's to hoping that the beta is lengthy with many phases and multiple character wipes to ensure that the game is balanced with exciting content to explore upon release.

what happene to legecey I have the game but cannot play it on my current computer, so what was wrong with it?

I also think an extensive beta testing program would be great for the game to ensure it is as flawless as possible upon launch, but I don't want the developers to feel like they should try to release a beta until they are sure that the game is at least somewhat playable; that way, the flaws players find will usually be the smaller aspects that need to be fixed instead of something of a magnitude that requires an extensive overhaul.

That's the spirit!! Seriously folks, Cryptic isn't exactly new to the field of MMOs -- they know exactly what needs to be done to properly comb out all the bugs via beta-testing. Not to mention, given the extremely intense fanbase for a Star Trek MMO, I'm sure they'll take that into account when deciding whether or not to hold an Open Beta -- they know we'd all KILL to get our hands dirty in STO before release. (Wink Wink Nudge Nudge, hey Cryptic in case I wasn't clear, pick me for Beta!!!! lol)

Yup picking the right beta testers can make or break a game's launch.
