I see there are already over 70 pages of posts. If some of these questions have been asked, I do appologize.
Emert said that advancement wasnt going to be level based. if not, then how will character advancement and growth be handled?
Is this game going to be 'cross platform'? And if so, will it be 'dumbed down' to accomodate the console platforms as it seems many games are doing now?

This is assumed to mean that there will be no "level" labels, but the character still gains experience, new skills, and potency by completing missions and playing in the game in some fashion. You will be free to pick the skills you want for your character basically...there wont be a level structure mandating what skill you get with every level, for instance.
Otherwise it wouldn't be an RPG.

I have been hoping that it will be similar to the pre-nge character advancement of Star Wars Galaxies. Aka, as you progress you gain experience in different areas by doing different things and can pick skills related to that area.

It's ok... most of the threads are the same anyway. :)

Probably skill based advancement. Your character will choose a specialty (Like Janeway's an Archeologist, Picard's a Diplomat, Kirk's an... ass kicker) which will presumably advance in skill level. You will also be responsible for both your bridge crew and then the rats down in the lower decks. I speculate that you will probably be able to advance training in skills for your bridge crew, possibly for the rest of the crew as well, though to a lesser extent.

The game is being codeveloped for PC and Console, but we don't know which consoles yet. No word has been given from them about how that's being accomplished, but seeing as the newer consoles (xBox and PS3 specifically) have much better capabilities than in the past, and both can accept keyboard/mouse input, I would go so far as to speculate (and hope) that no "dumbing down" will be necessary.
