G'day,
Just a small question, just wondering how many people are here with interests and looking forward towards Star Trek Online without having a huge love for Star Trek ?
I'm one of them, it's not that I dis-like Star Trek, just couldn't really get into it, but after keeping track
of the newly announced Star Trek Online, I'm liking what I'm see'ing and have no intentions to be put off
because I don't know anything about Star Trek.

I think you might like it more than some fans :)

Well I like it but i'm not obsessed with it (despite my tolerance I do believe there is a limit to how obsessed you should be and alot of people have crossed that line and have gone out of sight.)

In Sci-Fi, I started off in Star Wars. Star Trek wasnt appeling to me until I got older and was able to understand more adult themes. So I am intrested, being a relatively new Trek fan.

Yeah, that's me. I'm looking forward to the game because I like MMORPGs, I like sci-fi in general, and I believe that there has not been an MMORPG that has done ship combat very well yet. So I'm betting on this pony. I like Star Trek but not enough to catch that many episodes when they were on the air.

Hmmm... I didn't know there were any of you out there. :)
Seriously though, there are a ton of SciFi series, movies and books that I love; including B5, BSG (ToS and TNS), Aliens, Star Wars... but they *all* started for me with myself and my grandfather watching Star Trek from his old beat up easy chair in the basement.

My non-Trekkie girlfriend is pretty excited about the game, which makes me both happy and nervous.

This is honestly probably the best way to be about the game, because you dont have any wild expectations associated with the setting or previous game proposals, and can judge the game on its own merits.
Not to mention it is indicative of what this game actually has the potential to do:
Actually *grow* the Star Trek fanbase, as oppsed to slowly strangle it like every Trek project in the last 10+ years.
Welcome to the boards!

I'm not a Trekkie.. by any means. I enjoy the series for the space adventure, the technological idealogies, the humour, the friendships that are made, the aliens that are discovered.
I'd have to say this about everything.. I'm a very average joe with no true interests in anything but real life technology.
For instance
I love:
ROBOTS
STRATEGY
DIPLOMACY
GOVERNMENT
POLITICS
ENGINEERING
ASTRO PHYSICS
PERSONALITIES
CONQUEST!!!
PEACE and LOVE
FAMILY
GAME DEVELOPMENT
I'm not anymore fan of City of Heroes than Star Trek.. but I do LOVE DEVELOPERS who put heart and soul into their works of imagination!!!
I HATE:
LIARS, CHEATS, COWARDS, and IDIOTS
By the way..
The greatest game ever made is XENOGEARS!
