Besides the usual transporter and beaming to different coordinates on a planet, I think there is excellent and entertaining gameplay potential in having various vehicles available to use down on planets depending on the kind of terrain you encounter. Perhaps you could choose from many types of vehicles (land rovers, hovercraft, shuttlepod, etc. depending on your skill level more would be available to take down from your ship).
There really hasn't been too much explored, that I know of, through the volumes of trek on-screen for land vehicles. But I think it would be great to have something like the ARGO from Nemesis for a land rover, or a hovercraft for traversing water, or even a shuttlecraft / Runabout for flying around a planet landscape.
I think HALO 3 does a great job of allowing multiple players to ride in vehicles and giving each player a job to do while in the vehicle (Especially for combat). For instance, one person can drive, another fire weopons or a canon, and another player can shoot from the passenger side. There are so many options that could be implemented. Maybe one person could harvest or mine with a tool or instrument, while another drives to gain resources. And it allows the freedom of getting in/out of the vehicle whenever.
I think in combat situations it would add a dynamic approach to the battlefield if there were vehicles and not just phaser rifles and hiding behind rocks. I can just picture some bad-ass Klingon land vehicles that would be great if they stay true to a trek-style.
do we realy need the ARGO? people can walk its exploration or they can take a shuttle

Like mounts in other fantasy online MMO's ?
Would be cool, like Star Wars Galaxies having hover bikes and stuff.

I think on some planets where there is a large expanse of terrain it would be more interesting to have the option of using a vehicle instead of just walking around. Maybe you would have to use some of the instruments on the vehicle to complete missions. scans, collect items and take them back with you. Load them all up in your shuttlepod. Then Fly back to your ship (seamlessly, with no loading cut-screen between the planet and flying up to the ship, that would INCREDIBLE if you ask me) and then dock in the docking bay. Perhaps you wouldn't be able to transport down to all planets because there is atmospheric interference or something lol.

Yeah, except that those all sucked. If they add them, I'd hope for something more like PlanetSide or the way vehicles are handled in the Battllefield series. I guess I'm hoping for more twitch based combat on the ground.

I can understand having a shuttle available, but I'm not sure about other types of vehicles. Part of the exploration idea is to be discrete about it. They always land the shuttlecraft away from any settlements and the walk and observe from a distance. Driving up in the ARGO or other vehicle wouldn't work for that. There are probably a few places where it would work, but I wouldn't want the option to use it everywhere.

No darned land vehicles. The ARGO was just plain stupid. Why use land vehicles when you can fly and teleport everywhere?
But none of those have a weapon cannon on the back! LOL err shuttle has phasers and at least 4 photon torpedos

And suppose that we're down on a planet, studying them in disguise so as to not violate the Prime Directive? When I land on the planet, I want to get in that Model T Ford and grind the gears, just like my favorite captain! :)

Nemesis had a nice land exploration scene, we could build off that, it looked PERFECT for an MMO game. Also site to site transports and even *gasp* walking can work

Make sure they're powered by fossil fuels and have the same old rubber tires ;). The best reason I could think of for ever needing one is if you're on a planet where transporters don't work and shuttles are incredibly unreliable with only the lowest tech able to function.

Walking? It's only the 21st century and I don't walk ANYWHERE. In the 25th, I want a pimped out floating scooter-machine with death rays. Throw me a frikken' bone here.

Site to site hopefully wont be out of control should be isolated to having Transporter Terminals on colonized or developed planets so as to save time (Like Flight paths in Wow). It should be that unless your really high up and have a ship with a cargo bay and large enough cargo transporter to beam that sucker down you should be hoofing it.

Personally I really liked that ground veh from Nemesis. Having a few of those would really be nice or if there's a water world how about a jet ski type. What i'd like to see is maybe a connection between space and land. Most land/space games you're in space, then you jump down to the ground and one has little to do with the other; beyond maybe a story line. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to take a shuttle down into the atmosphere, maybe an air battle. Or a ground to air battle, I'd love to have a huge shoulder canon to shoot down a shuttle or fighter.

Oh, I'll have a Ten Forward even if it's bigger than the starter ship. :)

Come to think of it, the Galaxy Class had one too, they just never used it in the series. There was even a joke about it. Patrick Stewart was doing the voiceover for a series of car commercials so they named it the USS Pontiac.

I think it would be interesting to have some sort of ground based vehicle. Maybe for exploration missions it could have extra scanning equipment or something.

I'd like to have it too. More stuff the better in this game.
