Playable Races. Fix the confusion. Devs read this.

Before STO was handed from its previous developer to this one, the already announced races that the Dev said people could play was Romulan, Volcan, human (star fleet), Borg, klingon..ect..

In the recent press release, it was said human and klingon were available. Now this really perked my interested because a MMO where only klingon and human were for choice would completely fail. However the trailer showed borg and other presences.

So what say you devs, clear this up, and help this confused but patient future STO subscriber as well as anyone else whom has the same question.

I belive in STO there will be thousand of alien Federation and kilgon empire will serve as faction (a bit like the alliance and the horde in WoW) the main races will be human and kligons

Federation of Planets is made up of Dozens of different races not just HUMANS. Vulcans, Breen, Betazoid to name just a few.

I'm sure that there are different races within the Klingon Empire also. I'm not the bigest Trek fan so I'm not sure.

All will be playable along with the ability to make something completely new in the character generation phase.

Federation and Klingon are two *factions*, not races.

You will be able to play as nearly any humanoid race you can imagine from the series, within Factional constraints, presumably.

....you realize that the Federation isn't just humans, right? Federation = humans, Vulcans, Andorians, Bolians, Bajorans, etc. If the game really is a few generations after the end of the last movie, then it's also possible that the rebuilt Cardassian worlds have been absorbed into the Federation; they're almost certain to have had to take a lot of Federation humanitarian support after the Dominion War if nothing else.

Klingon Empire races include Klingons and whoever they've conquered. You know that Empire implies more than one world? And that Klingons periodically have a Thing about conquest? There's no way that it's only Klingons that owe fealty to the Emperor. (Not Kahless anymore, most likely, but Emperror <Something>, son of Kahless.)

Please watch the official anouncement from the Vegas convention. It will explain everthing. There is going o be whole lot more than just two species to choose from. The trailer is up and linked on the main page of this site.

He said there would be so many races that if you wanted, you could make your own.... aka. an Infinite(or close to it) amount of races are possible

The Federation is an alliance of planets encompassing many races. And it was mentioned that you can create races of your own, as an alternative to selecting a race established in Star Trek canon (Humans, Klingons, Ferengi, etc.)

The Federation and Klingons are the two playable factions that will be present at launch. So you can be a Bolian and still be part of the Federation. However, I don't know (and can't imagine) that you'll be able to be a Ferengi member of the Klingon Empire (but I don't know that for a fact). So choosing to play for the Klingon Empire might force you to play as a member of the Klingon species? Maybe I'm wrong, but I've not heard otherwise.

You seem to be confused on all fronts. First off the previous owners of the game rights never said most of those were playable. Seconly you can choose from MANY known races such as Humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Cardassians, Ferengi, etc. Thirdly if your race isn't there you could use a custom race maker to either create your own race or try an duplicate a known race that isn't available and call it that race.

With that out of the way...

Check out the webcast posted on the main STO page, mate. Not only will there be pretty much every race we've ever seen in Trek, from Bajorans to Tellarites, we will be able to create our own unique races.

That's it. The federation includes not only humans but many more races.
But of course this does not include the borg or Romulans, unfortunately.
It would have been playing well with a Romulan, but time to time.

I hope that you can merge two exisiting races without worrying about the actual biologys clashing etc. Personally I want to place as a Klingon/Trill Hybrid, with spots and ridges :D

What races will we be able to play?
The plan is Human, Vulcan, Andorian, Klingon, Orion, Gorn, and several others. You will also be able to create your own race with its own custom look and attributes.

I just hope they never stop adding races for you to play. Either in expansions or updates. I really wanna see some of the more obscure races like the Edoans (Lt, Arexx) or the B'zzit K'hatt (seen in the background in Star Trek IV) I would love to play a Caitian or a Xelation. Of course I realize alot of people reading this won't recognize most of those names but for those who do...:D

Hey new to the forums and i've searched around a bit to get a better idea of some questions i had that the faq didn't answer and i apologize if this has already been brought up. anyway i've always been a fan of the romulan empire and from the faq they state at least two major factions as the federation and klingons and i think a romulan race as playable. but i really want to know if there will be or a possibility of a romulan "faction" with romulan spacecraft, mainly the D'Deridex or some version of that (always loved that ship). again i'm sorry if this specific question has already been answered!
