Hello, my first post.. whoot!

I belong to an online Star Trek PBEM RPG on Bravo Fleet. I play a marine on my ship, and my question is, can you play as a marine?

Thanks,

JP

No, we have decided that Starfleet has no need for marines anymore. Your job is over.

Thanks,

in the trailer it looks like the Andorian is in a gray green uniform, he could be a SF marine.

EDIT: the Andorian in the gray green is also the only one with a phaser rifle or any wep at all out of that group.

The Andorian was in Star Fleet Intelligence Grey. I'm an Ex-Bravo Fleet man myself. I was on the Devestator and I care about the marines as well. It would be great to have multiple classes solely for combat, but mabe I'd like marines to be an unlockable class.

Everyone in this game is apparently going to be the Captain of a ship (leader of the ship, if not the actual rank of Captain) in charge of an NPC crew. You won't literally be a Marine but the developers mentioned something about having your Captain choose skills he specializes in. So if you wanted a Marine background I would imagine you have your Captain train to be very good at infantry warfare.

While I can't speak about the Marines I can say that Jack mentioned "groups like the Star Fleet Engineers" at least two times, so this may be an indication that they are looking to include some of the lesser seen elements of Star Trek.

I myself am in Bravo Fleet, and I pray to the MMO Gods that this game does NOT include marines. It's stupid and redundant, and was an excuse for people to make more Starfleet weapons that were more heavy duty, and say "I'm a marine" and all. Security department is the people that do those sorts of missions.

In every MMO you have two types of Tank, offensive and defensive. They play differently. I'm hoping for something similar to get diversity into the combat as most players are going for Security. I was Security in Bravo Fleet. I had a marine commander that outranked me and tried to do everything. I know that they can be redundant. I just want them to do the marines right here where they're not redundant.

My security character is in the midst of an FMI Commander (Fed marines), Strat Ops officer (which on this simm is tactical), and Starfighter Commander (fighters in Trek FTL)... so as Security my working scope is significantly reduced. However, I find I get better writing out of the narrower field I got, it's just a matter of how you choose to handle it. :o

Though I suppose I've drifted a bit off the STO topic ;)
