I just know from experience to not rush things. If you release this game too quickly, it will bomb harder than Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier. I suggest pushing back release to at least 5 years instead of 3. You should have lots and lots of time for beta testers to give feedback on bugs and enjoyable elements of the game. Star trek is such a MASSIVE universe that it will be impossible for cryptic to please everyone and therefore they will find the majority of what people want and do their best to give the fans what they want. I just truly beleive all fans should just LOWER their STANDARDS and expectations if they want to enjoy a rushed game.

It will be LESS than 3 years...possibly less than 1.5 years. They are just building content now. They already had an engine that works. They've been building content for like 7 months already too.

Agreed. Jack said repeatedly that he couldn't say for sure (which is the reason for a nebulous response like "less than 3 years") but that it was "closer than you think." Champions Online is slated for April 2009 release and STO is using the same engine. It's just content building now. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Christmas 2009 release.

I have done plenty of 3d design and yeah, it takes time. But to say that Christmas 2009 is almost impossible is way too far fetched. Christmas 2009 IS doable...keep in mind I don't think any of us know the actual manpower they have working on this.

LOL I laughed so hard when he said less than 4 years or less than 3! By then, many people will have moved to a new game or forgot about the game. The graphics are already sub par and to waid 3 years will be death, like playing on an old nintendo. This is one thing they gotta push now! Forget champions online as its not gonna be cryptics main game and Star Trek could be their best bet to really make bank and make a name for themselves like blizzard. I can tell ya, there will be plenty more MMO's between now and 3 years that the thrill of the initial STO buzz will have died. I just hope they dont screw this one up! Stargate worlds will be out as well as games like warhammer and of course WOW. Well I hope some of the team gets to read this post and takes these factors into account!
