Two things from SWG (the game we used to love)- let us decorate our ships not just change the color palette, let us put our items we collect and earn throughout the ship so it can be a place for socializing and showing off our gear.

Then make crafting hard- the quality and type of resources need to change and take some skill to find, then crafting should take more skill and this should be reflected in the outcome of the products. Dont just place nodes of the same resources in the same spot all the time and then call it crafting when you add to reourcs together to make an item. Thats called WOW and AOC and its boring.
Its the social aspect of the game that important to keep our attention.

yea it'd be a great idea if you could decorate your quarters with things you find on planets or perhaps salvage from glorious battle!

I'm sure Cryptic is definately working on that. All that junk in Picards ready room has made me jealous over the years.

I love that Idea. I liked SWG where I could just go inside and decorate my ship on the inside.

that's a good idea, actually, but it can't be as complicated as Anarchy online's crafting system. or as fragmented as Hellgate: london's. We can't expect it to be some sort of gary's mod because pushing the envelope on an MMO.

Maybe if it was modular, similar to say, a Lego type thing? have different materiels to make base components, then combine the components in any way we want?

it would mean exploring to find new technologies and so we can craft those modules. i guess we need a sort of "spore creature creator" of crafting systems. equal but balanced and customizable.

You're telling me!

Jack Emmert did say they want to have the Dominion as a playable faction in the future. That would be my dream come true.

I'm overall pleased with what I saw in the webcast, so now my only request is DS9 and more DS9.

One thing I would like is a diplomatic talent tree option. If you put your resources into the diplomatic path, you can potentially avoid combat situations (if you choose). If, on the other hand you wish to upgrade your phaser banks or tactical talent tree option, you can go in guns ablazin'.

Speaking of GEAR, i wonder how they will treat that. Considering this game seems more individualistic than gear oriented...meaning each is customizable. I played city of heroes/villians and that was not gear oriented either.

As far as decoration goes, Lotro in my opinion has the best housing customization that i have seen, i love having the ability to display my trophies for everyone to see, or blanketing my walls with all kinds of crap that i find. I would really like to see this in STO as well, but as of yet, i'm having trouble picturing what they could put as trophies. Aside from harogen (i think thats how you spell it) and their decorating their walls with bones; a few batleth and a phaser rifle here or there, wont do it for me.

Also from the webcast, it sounds as if only guilds can make the highest 'tiered' ships in the shipyards, if thats true than everyone will join a large guild just to get their sovereign/vor'cha class ships. They should in my opinion make them somewhat limited in population.

As long as I can have a Lionfish in my ready room, I'll be happy.

Who wouldnt want to fill their starship with tribbles?
In temrs of crafting- making it a specific talent tree thats effected by rank and diplomacy sounds good to me

There is nothing wrong with ST:ENT, I just hope we can get the ENT uniforms when it comes time to making our captains.

I have a hunch craftings not gonna be a major element of STO. haveing read between the lines here is the gear I forsee us haveing access too..

Ship stuff:
Weapons
Bridge Modules

Personal Stuff:
Armor
Weapons
Kits
sheilds (the D2D bonus makes referance to a sheild slot in armor)

I assume you'll be able to construct all of these to one degree or another.

I loved how SWG allowed you to decorate your ships and houses, and I think that a system like that should be implemented in STO. I think that it would be a cool way for players to showcase the items that they have collected over the course of the game, maybe an awards display too with badges for missions completed? Oh and TOS uniforms should be released later on in some form other than DDE of the game :)
