An Idea for On Screen Webcams

Read through the first and second page, but didn't see anything like this. Maybe I missed it but... Wouldn't it be cool if you hailed another ship and it brought up a screen of the captain from the other ship, like they did in the tv shows and movies.

I think he means virtually. Which would be awesome. But if we're talking actual webcam footage...

A: That would be too hard to code, and would prob take up too much bandwidth

But yeah. Having a viewscreen when you hail would be awesome. Just an inch closer to the Star Trek experience.

Hailing a ship and seeing the other captain's avatar would be fantastic!

I think an interactive LCARS system for those people with the nifty Touch Screen monitors would be cool; say if they could work in a Dual Monitor setup, a regular (high response) monitor for the Regular gameplay and a Touch Screen for whatever panel your avatar is interfacing with...

Naturally, this would only really be worthwhile if they had Player Crews (with extremely rich customers)... but this is most likely just unrealistic day dreaming ;) ...

I can see this being taken in a dirty way, I thought it over and I knew there was no way they could take a webcam of a player and add it into the game when they would hail other ships.

The avatar of your character, full body or just the upper body with the bridge of your starship and officers going about their business or waiting for a command to be seen in the background of the On Screen ability. I can see them doing it. Would really add the feel of being a Starship Captain if I could see the other captains I'm talking when I ask them to stand down and surrender like seen in the different series. I hope someone from Star Trek Online sees this thread and takes this idea farther!

I'm all for the avatar hail.

The webcam is a great idea, in itself, but as members of the MMO community and from our combined gaming experiences; we really, really couldn't trust ourselves with that ability.

How about avatars which are created by uploading web cams short video, for example

I can have a way to setup my mood, (smile, anger, combat, sad, etc) and have it uploaded to my avatar library and as I chat with others, colaborate or fight with other, i can change the mood (or autochange to battle mode in pvp).

Real live feed for webcam would be for playing poker like in the series. Without the face interaction, you would miss a big part of the game. Also in battle, sometimes bluffing was the big part of all captains, Kirk, Sisco, Janeway, Picard, etc. HOw can you bluf unless they see you and you can see them?????

and i still stick by webcams in-game = bad, no-no-no.

because you will get people just putting crap infront of teh camera from granny pron, turds and proabbly goa*se's
