Will the consoles and pc versions be able to be played together( on same server)? it would be great if they can.

I would guess so. The PC, PS2, and XBox 360 versions of FFXI all played together.

It'd be ****** awful if they can. One of the most fun aspects of an MMO is interaction - it's not quite as convenient to 'type' on a console as it is on a keyboard. I've yet to see a console that supports a mouse and there's VERY few console games out that support a keyboard for anything more than simple text entry (suggesting that it may not be possible). It'd create too large a divide where a PC user has all their abilities and functions to hand while a console user has to fiddle around in various menus to get things to work.

I thought we were beyond using keyboards to talk. Instead we use voice.

There's these things called 'languages' that often form a 'barrier' to voice comms.
Personally, I much prefer typing. Gets the message across much clearer and can be looked back on 30 seconds later if you need to double check something.

aye but have you heard them say that voice was a major content of communication.

I think the big hurdle here will be if Micro$oft and $ony will even want to share this without forcing they're own way of doing things upon Cryptic.

I played EQOA on the PS2 and most players, if like myself used a combination of controller and keyboard. It was only like 20 bucks to get a keyboard, no big deal, and a controller gives you a lot more options than a mouse. People are blowing this way out of proportion, it's really a simple problem with a simple solution. You play with a controller like any other game and use the keyboard to communicate.

FF-XI may not be the best example...FF-XI Online, at least on the PC side and I'm assuming on the 360, plays through that stupid shell... I was expecting it to be different when I move from the PS2 to the PC version, but it's exactly the same game, right down to the 2+ hour of initial patching!... Which I imagine makes maintaining 3 different platforms a lot easier. I think the situation is closer to WoW having PC and Mac clients... The PC version is first, and we'll have to see if Mac or console client get developed.

They also make a messaging keyboard attachment for the 360 controller. It fits between the grips. I've never used it, but it could probably work decently well in an MMO, and then at least console players wouldn't have to have a keyboard plugged into their systems.

Actually you can use a keyboard and mouse on a 360 (provided they are wireless) by sticking the wireless receiver into one of the USB slots on the 360 however I have not tried this with a PS3 but I assume it would work. I'm concerned over the fact that they will limit the PC version to compensate the console version and honestly hope they have a seperate server for the console version and they can join the PC server at their own risk if they choose to.

You can use keyboard/mouse on the PS3. As long as the game is coded to support it. I truly don't think that they will dumb down any of the gameplay, as the consoles (using CELL technology) are fully capable platforms. My fear is that (in the development pipeline) is that it's considered basically the same to develop on both PC and xBox, but from what I understand, PS3 requires more work. Not sure about Wii.
The game will be one server so one would assume that it would be all platforms on one server.
which will be fun because it means superior PC players can prove their superiority over console gamers.

Even the Wii supports a USB keyboard.

sigh ... not another gief on console thread, seriously games on PC > games on console.Yes pirating is heavy on PCs,but that's because of the games released these days arent even worthy of paying 5$ to play to play,on consoles it's the same story except there are soo little games that people dont have a choice but pay to play mediocre games.
The only games worth mentioning on the consoles is FF series,DMC,GTA,GoW and that's about it.
Asking for a complex MMOG on a console is like asking for RTS on console,it's just hilarious trying to see someone move their 5 units to your base while you micro right around them and have wiped out their base before their units even fire.

We never needed to prove our "superiority" ... PC gamers > console gamers, simple as that realy.

Someones stuck in the past, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZXcuhJkwx4 <- This just demonstrates the possibilities of a PS3 with a keyboard and mouse.
Also, FFXI can use Keyboard and Mouse. All you have to do is enable it for an MMO on either system. There is no difference between a console and the average PC. On average the consoles more likely the more powerful system when compared to aging PCs in general.
I don't see why any limitations even if they existed would sway your reasoning one way or another. Who cares what they are capable of at least there are more people to play with and more money for Cryptic to make.

May sound stupid but: FAQ on the homepage has answer to that and also interview with hailing frequencies. They say that they would like to do it and it is possible.
