I just want a date nothing else, no explanation or anything just a little date. An estimated date will do as well !

There isn't one yet. But seeing as how there's an engine in place already and we're about to see actual in-game footage in 24 hours, I'd say ... end of '09, beginning of '10.

Not even a tiny clue at all.

It just was announced to the public. Don't expect any sort of a release date for a while. Then expect that release date to be wrong.

I'd estimate somewhere between late 2010 to early 2011, although it may be 2009 or 2012 for all we know.

I hear it is due out sometime shortly after the release of Duke Nukem Forever.

There is no date at all buddy. Not even a hint of a date.

Any date that anyone gives you is just a guess.

The sad part is, that's actually possible.

Posting negatively or being obscure will not solve or answer anything.

There is no established date writing code for a game environment is really lengthy because you never know what bugs will show there face till after you have been able to stress test game with beta testers.

And since the game is not at point of even having Beta release for testing there is no way to begin to even determine when the game will be released, even if a Beta test server was open right now, there would still be now way of predicting how long before it goes live, because the length of the test it self is solely determined on what bugs, glitches, broken missions would need to be fixed, or how to fix them with out the redundant trial and error procedures and then what bugs pop else where because of what you just fixed.

So sadly I wish I could help you more, but right now there really is no way of giving any type of earnest answer to your question.

Well, from the sweepstakes on the box and sub giveaways, they say;

"The retail box prize will be awarded when commercially available, which is estimated to be at least one year after the close of the contest."

I would imagine thats their best guess at the moment.

Um, don't be surprised if it is pretty distant in the future. They say their using nothing of Perpetual's so I have to believe they are a pretty long way off from having a finished product, unless they plan to rush, which is nothing but bad. I waited over 5 years for my current MMO (AOC) and there are still enough bugs/oddities. Don't try to make make them rush it, because you will then be inevitably disappointed and the forums will start filling with whiners about how they are paying for beta. Just IMHO

Hmm well they DID state it was set a couple generation after Nemesis in the 25th century, so given were in the 21st century now we only have to wait about 400 years. Just imagine how sweet it would be then.

If Cryptic has had to pay for the IP to start working on the game, and has already been working on it in the past 6-8 months, then it is in their own interest to throw something out to the public and start generating revenue as soon as possible. That is why I think we will not have to wait too long before we can actually play the game. Who knows, the first public Beta might even be released before the end of this year. But, as others have stated already, there is no official release date, so ... all we can do now is wait and speculate.

What sticks out in my mind is the recent interview where it was stated "This isn't renders. This isn't concept art. Everything that people will see on Sunday is going to be taken right from 'Star Trek Online' as it stands today, so hardened people should know that a release date might be closer than they think."

Of course, for an MMO, "closer" would reasonably describe "one year" rather than "2 years." Which would suck, because I've got my Trek Jones going full force. (but hey, I'd rather wait for a working game that succeeds than rush a P.O.S. product that flops and drags the franchise down. "Star Trek: Legacy" providing a fine example of what happens to rush jobs.)

In terms of pleasant fantasies about a release less than one year, there are a few little glimmers of hope. Cryptic has done MMO's before, so it's reasonable to hope they've been setting up server and such in parallel to the game/engine development. The likelyhood of them ambushing themselves with server or database issues drops. As opposed to some games I've played Back In The Day, where the games were developed and released with the servers slapped together at the last minute, corners knocked off the programing here and there to stuff the game into the server hardware, new hardware scotch taped into the network, etc.

I doubt they'd want their release to be competing with the new WoW expansion, and really can't envision them having STO ready in time to do so anyway, so my absolute, out of the butt guess is "Q3" of next year. Of course it's specutlation based on speculation about specutlation....

I say October of 2009.
They have an Engine. So all they need to do is, basically, mod it. That's probably mostly done. They also most likely have 50% of all in game models completed.

What takes the most time, is making the missions, dialog, NPCs, maps, ect... The people of the universe. Once that's done, what's left is bug hunts.

Geez, I guess I'm the only one that actually read the contest rules:

"
4. PRIZES: Grand Prize (5): Five (5) Grand Prize Winners will be selected to receive: one (1) Star Trek Online retail box copy and one (1) Star Trek Online “Lifetime Subscription”. Estimated retail value of the Grand Prize is $550 per Grand Prize; $2750 total. The retail box prize will be awarded when commercially available, which is estimated to be at least one year after the close of the contest. "
