Now, hopefully, we won't see Nebula and Akira Classes flying around like X-Wings like in the earlier Trek games.
That aside, I want to see advantages smaller ships have over bigger ones, and vice-versa. I don't want to see armadas of the biggest ships to possibly get because they're the most powerful. If I want a Defiant, Intrepid, or Luna Class, I want them to have advantages over D'deridex and Negh'Vars. More maneuverability, more speed, or something. Whereas larger ships can have more power, but be less accurate.

I don't know how the econ system works, or players will acquire ships or if we even have to purchase them.
But I've always been a believer in exponential growth rate in cost of ships with regards to size. Limit the amount of "money/prestiege" a player can bank, and force all new ships being produced by your empire to auction, that can be bid on by any player.
Eventually all ships will fall on the correct price/strength curve.

Looking at the style of ship combat (from GR's original vision outward) ship combat specifically seems to be similar to WW2 naval battles. Hence the style that combat took in everything from the pen and paper Starfleet Battles to the combat in the Starfleet Command games.
They did mention that combat would be similar to what we saw in Wrath of Khan, so I would imagine a safe bet would be to start there. Even moving into TNG and Voyager, ship combat seems to resemble old WW2 battles, like Midway, Leyte Gulf, Wake Island.
The interesting thing is that it's been generally depicted by using Destryers, Cruisers and Battleships, but no real attention to a Carrier class, which is the class that changed the shape of what WW2 combat became.
I'm curious to see if we'll have a Carrier class with attendant fighters, and if so, how they'll affect combat with the more standard classes and if they'll change it (combat style) accordingly.
