I really hope Cryptic tuned in on the need for a German version.

As an online MP Trek Gamer, I see the Germans mutual love of Star Trek games. German is also the common language for many other countries who have Star Trek Gamers and fans.

Of course it would be nice to have Spanish, French and Italian and several others (including Portuguese for the legions of Hardcore ST fans down in Brazil)

But My vote would be to put German on the very top of the list :)

What I think they might do is if the go ahead and split US / EU we might have English, German and French servers, like WoW, hopefully though they will allow players to play on the server of their choice, Like a German player playing on an English realm

Mein Englisch ist nicht allzu gut, daher schreib ich das mal auf deutsch ^^
Ich kann zwar alles lesen und verstehen, aber mich englisch ausdrücken ist schwieriger.
Also ich möchte gern Star Trek Online spielen, aber auf deutsch. Ich denke das ich nur so das ganze Spiel wirklich geniessen kann ohne ständig abgelenkt zu werden von meinem Wörterbuch. Ich habe im Alltag eher weniger mit Englisch zu tun und daher finde ich es weitaus entspannter ein Spiel in deutscher Sprache zu spielen.
Ich würde es mir schon sehr überlegen das Spiel überhaupt zu kaufen sollte es keine deutsche Version geben.

Short Translation:
My english isnt very good, so i write in german.
I would play the game gladly.
I would like to play the game instead of read the dictionary the whole time.
If there no german server i think i wont play the game.

I am pretty sure that there will be localisations in the main languages. Most other games have it, so why shouldn't ST:O have it.

I think we'll see translations in

French
German
Spanish
English
and possibly Chinese if the game is allowed there.

I am German myself but apart from LOTRO I've played almost all my MMO's and English servers. I'll probably play ST:o and an english speaking server as well.

not sure how much this answers your question but I've seen on Cryptic's job board that for online community relations they are looking for someone bilingual in French and English and another bilingual in German and English... so they do have some plans concerning the French and German speaking STO community but how that translates gamewise don't know

They have to...there are many many German fans of Star Trek. And it would be a good way for me to practice my German :D
