Well, like most games and MMOs, it wil be beta tested. They will iron out most of the kinks and bugs but most of the work will be done while the game is live.

oh and lets not even start the nerf talk yet lol :p

I may want to open beta test, but anything longer will ruin the game for me

I would love to participate in the Beta, even early on. While it can be frustrating at times playing an unpolished product, I have confidence in Cryptic to deliver at the very least, a stable client to begin with. This is the most irritating thing about many other betas I've played. I can deal with little bugs and balance issues, but trying to deal with a client that crashes every hour is VERY annoying.

Shuttles are overpowered. If there are 1000 of them vs 1 bird of prey, the bird of prey will be destroyed. There needs to be limits on how uber the federation can be. Klingons need to do about 500x more damage than any federation star ship.

I hope they have one and I hope I get in. I've been unlucky the past few years with getting into Betas. I was offered to get into the WotLK alpha but I'm so sick of WoW...

When you Beta a game you see it evolve, I always love seeing a game go from a few walls and a roof to a piece of art(with or without roof). I'd love to test this game, just like the countless others I've tested.

You can be sure it will be beta tested. They even said in the webcast that it would be and that they'd look to those of us in the forum to help out with that. I for one certainly hope I get that chance :-)

Every MMO is extensively beta tested. I would actually expect STOs beta to be much shorter though. Like they said "We only have to make content". The engine, building tools, and network are already there. They are using the engine they use for CoX and CO. This will eliminate a good amount of the bugs you see in early closed beta.

They will most definately beta test it. Wether or not they will have an open beta is another thing.

Nothing but resounding DUHH for beta testing Of course we all want to beta test! LOL I hope it is soon. *crosses fingers* Shouldn't we get a beta sign up list started soon? that way it is already in one spot and we can make Razor's job a little easier.

I think the fact that we've already signed up on the boards shows our interest in the game and beta. I can't see beta happening for quite awhile yet.

Correction, they are using the same engine as Champions Online, which is different thatn the Cox engine. Everything else you said was correct.

I wonder when they will start a thread for that. I just wish that I could work there so I would be playing it already! LOL

Closed beta testing is pretty much the common tune for every "serious" MMO. It's easier to keep track of their users with a closed beta, so they know exactly who isn't trying to break the game, as opposed to "LOL I PLAY EARLIER THAN YOU ALL HAHAHAHAHA"

Also, In before Razor locks for beta begging.

I can't think of any mmo out there that isn't even half way decent goes through beta testing.

I just can't wait till beta release. For sci-fi and most of all fellow star trek fans this is one of the most anticipated games ever. :D

So! You are the one responsible for all these crappy games of late!

Be careful what you admit to. All things aren't a feather in your hat. ;)

And if Cryptic listens to their testers. I am more worried that they will rush this game to launch and launch it with broken and unfinished content like a recently released mmo I used to play >.>
It seems to be a habit of mmo developers to release their games broken and unfinished then patch it up after a troublesome launch. Please Please... look at recent examples (Vanguard, Age of Conan) and dont do what they did.

yea its huge and it can definately have some problems. thats why we'll have the beta. itll be months long and probably have a large # of people testing. on release, have no worries, itll be fine and ready to go

CoH was well polished for it's time, and I'm sure that Cryptic'll make sure STO's going to be polished before shipping. We still have time yet before Beta starts (unless they really want a lengthy Beta), so we keep our eyes peeled and try to be on our best behaviour in the meantime :)

I really...really...really....really really want to be in this beta test...I have waited years for someone to take on this job and would sell my soul to be in the beta.
I have tested many games in the past...but this one is the one I want more then anything else.
Please...please...please...please...please...pleas e...please!!!!:D

I can't wait for the beta, but I will be glad to wait. I want this game to be perfect, and if that has to take a little bit longer I will be fine with that. I hope this game is going to be as good as I think it is going to be.

I have beta tested two games, UO and WoW. UO was unique since it was the first of its kind. WoW was a HUGE step forward compared to UO. Both were released with massive problems that had to be fixed using patches. I would hope that Cryptic would at least wait to release until after the vast majority or issues have been resolved.

Yes, I would greatly enjoy helping to alpha/beta test. I would be one bug hunting fool!

IMO, Alpha should be for a few people who meet the high computer standards needed for Alpha Testing.

Closed Beta should be for the people who both meet the high standards and have really low standards so they can stress test. These people should be selected from a pool of those who already pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of ST:O (if there is one, which there probably will be).

Finally, Open Beta should be open to all. It has been shown that MMOs that have a "Limited Open Beta" do worse on launch because people haven't been able to truly test the game nor get addicted. But, Full Open Beta should only be a week long because any longer and you allow trolls to turn the forums into a stinky bridge because they want the game to die.

Yeah I have alot of faith in them, specially after seeing the STO web cast, at the end letting a heap of people ask questions and answering them the best way he can.
Great to let the community be involved.

They have MUCH to live up to and MUCH to avoid. They saw what happened to SWG and I am sure they are going to avoid that like a naked Rosie O'Donnel.

They also probably paid attention to Funcom releasing an unfinished AoC and the disaster that ensued. Everyone in the gaming community has their eyes trained on WAR right now because they are releasing early and have already announced several 'cuts.'

Yeah after Age of Conan paying people have just had enough of unfinished games.
I can't say I'm in the same boat for War Hammer, I'm not really interested in it, but I will watch it's progress.
