I wonder if there will be plans for any cut scenes at certain points in the game, when it comes out. For anyone that has played LOTRO as I have you know what I'm talking about. Might we see these at some point in the game? Perhaps as a ceremony for an award given like a medal of valour? Or perhaps as a plot device of a harbinger of some coming danger in the future your captain has to deal with down the road?

Any thoughts of like or dislike of this idea? Would you like to see such, or do you hate the idea?

The things should be rare and only happen with big things. If you've seen that particular one before you should be able to skip it. Other then that they're fine and sometimes add to the awesomeness but bad ones get in the way.

Based on former games made by the developer? Yes. The more scripted missions have cut scenes at various points to advance the story. Who knows though.

I'm a fan of cut scenes if used properly they can add an amazing amount of immersion.

I like cut scenes, I hope we get to see some, especially a few with some voices we all recognize.

I agree, I rather like cut scenes in the game for the very reasons noted here. I realize tho sometimes it can get in the way if everyone in a group is waiting for that one player to finish watching the scene.

Still I love the idea, and hope they put a few in.

I think that would be pretty sweet. But yea definatly keep to a rarity and on the big missions that might have something to do with altering the course of the whole federation or other group etc...

I agree I like cut scenes for game, but for MMO I think they should be more toward story line mission or large events, and the opening of the game.

Good point. I remember when they added cutscenes to CoX(CoV introduced them, if I recall correctly). Blew my mind the first time I saw one, even after having seen them done before in FFXI(which used them for major class-unlock quest chains and big story stuff).

Though, I'd also support a more Half-Life styled cutscene, where you dont' lose control of the game when they happen. It' easier to miss the good stuff, true... but it's also just so awesome when it's done well.

EDIT: Actually, as with voice acting, I only want ONE thing in regards to this. The first time I log my brand new character in after launch, I want a voice over. It should be intended to sort of represent my character, so at least either male or female as appropriate. And it should intone, "Space. The final frontier." And then go on from there with an appropriate modification of the original.

I agree with the others in this thread that the cutscenes should be included in the game. Though, it should help advance the story plus an opening cinematic would be good too.

One thing to add regarding the cutscenes, even if it is getting a quest there would be a moving mouth with a voice over. I personally hate playing a game (I won't name the one that I'm referring to) where you talk with a person, he/she just moves, and you have to read text with no voice over or lips moving to match what's being said. I don't want that in STO.

Just my thoughts.

I love cut scenes if they are part of a story arc! Id love to see giant rips in the space time continuum!
