I realise it must be in a future expansion but think of the potential player/guild citys on planets? The missions on the surface will probably be instanced but it would be cool in an expansion if they allowed some planets to be built on and some ground missions. The missions could be scientific to aid a terraforming initiative or just start a federation presence in the system.

Well, i dont think that would work. I do however like the idea. Lets say for example that when future Expansions come out that the Federation have colonised a planet and have made a settlement on the planet. That works, but i dont like the idea of making your own. Thats an idea pulled from SWG (not necessarily by yourself), I did not like that about that game, i wont like it about this one if they put in the ability to create settlements.

I say leave the colonization to the NPC controlled Empire. Player run planets/cities just don't fit in to the ST universion very well IMO.

Hehe well yes i did pull it from SWG ,butl the thing in swg was that it was created and abandoned , i did how ever like the citys that were working in the game they were usually the centers of comerce and crafting.

For the centers of commerce/crafting/interaction I am hoping it will be NPC controled areas IE Space Stations and Risa.

I was just thinking of the potential in the future and what is wrong with some player freedom? why npc?

Well, if they do make all ships have an interior, i say who needs a house on a planet. I would like to be able to customize our quarters though. I always liked decorating my house on SWG, it was one of the cool things about collecting crap. You could display everything you collected in the game in your house.

I really like this idea but I do think it is unlikely to have such a feature in-game at launch time. Obviously, there will likely be a lot of instanced missions on a variety of planets but I think that the focus as far as homes for fleets/player cities will be on the ships, not on the ground.

The ground game is as important as the space. The worlds need to be fully explorable with missions and quests.

i dont think that all planets would be able to be fully explorable as that would be ALOT of work as they would need to flesh out all planets they create

I guess I expect a lot of work from a company that wants use Star Trek IP. Any planet that is visitable from space should be fully explorable.

maybe the major planets at launch and then flesh other planets (about 10-20 per expansion pack) later on but there will be alot of planets to explore heh i wouldent be surprised to see a fair few gas giants around ;)

As already stated, SWG had player cities and it was really cool and it worked as far as I could see.
I was in a player ran city and got to know the ppl (residents - neighbours, mayor etc) We had events on and the like - and the same was true for friends who I used to play with (but unforunately were imps grrr )
I think in ST:O though you may be in crew quarters as your residence primarily, so not sure if it will be as viable. I would not be against them though - they could be in the form of player run starbases perhaps aswell?

the only thing that i can think of instead of customizable citys is possibly the ability to customize the inside crew quarters and such but not moving the main locations such as medibay, engineering, shuttlebay, mess hall and armoury because they are the critical places to goto for a boarding party and moving them all into places they wouldent fit into (realisticly thinking) into one place where just one fully defended corridor can halt them all would be a bit stupid
